2007 TOPPS PHILIP HUMBER

So another ghost of Mets’ pitchers past tossed a no hitter. A perfect game, no less.

And I swear I’m not bitter about it. You’ll get no “Bah, Humber” from me…

On the contrary, I leaned out my window the next morning and told a passing street urchin to buy for me the fattest goose in all of Christendom, such was my joy.

OK, I think I’ve officially pushed the Dickens out of that device.

But the fact remains that I’m proud of Philip Humber, pictured here on his 2007 Topps rookie card.

God bless you, Phil Humber.

God bless us every one!

Can’t wait for Topps to put out a subset of all the high-round Draft Picks from Rice who ended up needing some type of arm surgery. Like the 1972 TRADED subset, Topps can put a bold stamp of their injury across the photo.

    Phil Humber – 1st round
    Kenny Baugh – 1st round
    Wade Townsend – 1st round
    Lance Pendleton – 4th round
    Jeff Niemann – 1st round
    David Aardsma – 1st round
Jon Skaggs – 1st round supplemental

And to think, for all these years my wife has been trying to convince me that Rice is good for you…

David Aardsma holds the singular distinction of pushing Henry Aaron down to #2 on the all-time players alphabetical list.
