Chris Young had a very solid day on the mound.  He threw a total of 6 innings with 87 total pitches and 50 strikes.  The control wasn’t so much wavering as the 3 walks might indicate, you have to realize that Chris Young lives on the corners and is going to miss them on occasion.  Young’s velocity lived between the Fastball: 82 MPH and his Off Speed: 63 MPH.

In the whole game there was only 1 “Hard Hit Ball” a lineout to Fred Lewis in the top of the first.  I had to smile, considering that Young was able to get players to swing at early pitches so many times.  He’ll have less success with this approach in the majors but minor leaguers are usually more than willing to swing at the first pitch to float through the zone.  Of the 18 outs that Young recorded, only 6 had the power to reach outfielders and the two base hits were ground balls that got between Kazmar and Tuiasosopo.

The Line: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

If Young does this in his next outing… I’m not sure what else he’d need to figure out before being ready to come up and help out in the rotation up in Queens.

Pedro Beato came in with 1 out in the 7th after Chuck James gave up a HR and put two men on.  Beato gave up an RBI single to Donald and intentionally loaded the bases for LaPorta.  Beato managed to induce a double play ball but the umpires stated that Cord Phelps beat a lazy throw to second, but LaPorta was out at second.  Beato escapes being charged any runs himself as he ended the inning with a fly out to right.

The 8th inning went much smoother.  He got Huffman to fly out and struck out Mills.  Michael Hernandez gave the ball a rip that ended a few feet from the wall in Raul Reyes’ glove.  I can’t get a real sense on Beato’s readiness without seeing him or getting more detailed scouting than I can get by radio.

The Line: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB*, 1K (Walk was intentional)

Josh Thole started at catcher and had only 1 real play and failed to throw out the runner.  Huffman never scored so it didn’t really affect the game.  He was 1 for 4 and made contact in each at bat.  His hit was a single up the middle.  It’s good that Thole is making contact and he seems like he should be ready in only a few more starts as he played all 9 innings.

The Line: 4 AB, 0 R, 1 H, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 0 E, 0 PB
