Didn’t CLE just non-tneder Chris Perez? Seems unlikely they would move Pestano

December 4, 2012 – 8:34 pm
I have Pestano for a buck in 2 AL lgs so im not pushing for it lol
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:34 pm
I stashed mine in the bathtub
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:35 pm
Ha!
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:35 pm
Pestano can def. bring the heat. Name is he another Bobby Parnell?
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:36 pm
Have never watched him pitch so i dont know.
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:36 pm
as a fan i like the Wright deal but realistically its a waste. We will be paying for several years of his decline and unless we are planning to compete in the next few yrs, it makes little sence
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:36 pm
76 Ks in 70 IP last year
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:37 pm
I so much want the Wright deal to work out because I don’t want fans to boo him, ever.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:37 pm
I’m just afraid, that’s all
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm
34-37 may not be pretty
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm
Has anyone seen firm details of how the money works out? I’ve heard that they’ve structured it like a Bell Curve, where he gets more money in the middle and less on either end. That’s a pretty good way for the Mets to do it.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm
If you’re gonna get stuck paying too much for an old guy, he’s the guy to be stuck with
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm
I have zero worries about this deal
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:38 pm
I know that’s the argument – I just don’t know if I but it.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:39 pm
buy
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:39 pm
you can’t buy loyalty, integrity and his resume came cheap
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:39 pm
Let’s say absolute worst-case scenario happens and he pulls a Jason Bay on us the last two years of the deal – don’t you think the fans would turn on him?
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:39 pm
Dont know what mode the Brewers are in but anyone like Aoki?
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:40 pm
The contract scares me in the fact that it doesnt start until next yr
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:40 pm
Met fans are rapidly becoming the worst in baseball so you never know
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:40 pm
Aoki seems like better fantasy player than real life guy to me.
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:41 pm
Aoki is a solid player, more of a 4th OF type but a decent CF
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:42 pm
but hes over 30 yrs old so little upside
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:42 pm
So Scott – how do you get it so your name doesn’t show up on the list of chatterers?
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:43 pm
witness protection program
Scott G

Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:43 pm

Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:43 pm
And they have you on SI?!?
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:43 pm
Just my luck
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:44 pm
Seem odd that we have not heard one word/rumor about an Ike Davis deal?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:44 pm
The Mets apparently love him
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:45 pm
Sure but no one else even wants to kick the tires?
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:45 pm
They should hold on to Ike.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:45 pm
I think the prospect of swapping Davis is scarier than the risk of a Dickey deal
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:46 pm
Was hoping they could move Duda but i believe he is injured, correct?
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:46 pm
Im sure every player is talked about. Just depends on what the gm wants to leak out to the public.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:46 pm
My only thing with trading Ike is that we have a ready replacement with Duda and if he doesn’t develop it opens up a home for Flores.
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:47 pm
Im not a Flores Beliver
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:47 pm
Yes, Duda got hurt. But it’s hard to imagine him having much trade value after the year he just put up.
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:47 pm
True
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:48 pm
Duda foir Davis, Davis traded makes sense but might be too radical for the Mets
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:48 pm
Picked Flores up in my dynasty league after his year in the APPY. Cut him before last year. Obviously the key for him is not to be on my team.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:48 pm
Davis for the Oak RF would be a fair deal
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:48 pm
so is Myers a center fielder?
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:49 pm
Reddick?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:49 pm
yes, he hit 30+ HR’s
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:49 pm
you mean Wil Myers?
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:49 pm
yes
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:50 pm
No prob RF, hes a converted C but has athletic ability to play right
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:51 pm
Yes, Myers played most of last year in CF. Came up as a C so may not be able to stay in CF long
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:51 pm
Im actually really curious as to who the “insiders” and “high ranking officials” who leak info are
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:51 pm
You sure he played CF?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:52 pm
Yes
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:52 pm
I could get behind a Reddick/Davis deal if Reddick was a RHB
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:53 pm
What is the difference, you are just swapping power bats.
Scott G

December 4, 2012 – 8:53 pm
Cain should play CF in KC i believe.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:53 pm
Myers defensive stats from BR – 2012 21 Omaha PCL AAA KCR 3B 13 31 8 21 2 3 .935 2.23 2012 21 Omaha PCL AAA KCR CF 67 144 139 2 3 0 .979 2.10 2012 21 Omaha PCL AAA KCR RF 5 14 13 1 0 0 1.000 2.80 2012 21 Omaha PCL AAA KCR DH 15 0.00 2012 21 Omaha PCL AAA KCR OF 70 158 152 3 3 0 .981 2.21
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:54 pm
That’s 67 games at CF. Interesting that he also saw action at 3B – didn’t know that
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:54 pm
The big advantage to the Davis-Reddick swap would be getting Duda out of the OF
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:55 pm
The Mets must improve the OF defense
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:55 pm
Back in 2 minutes
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 8:55 pm
Have the Jackie Bradley rumors been sufficiently discredited yet?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:56 pm
The Mets had only 2 players statistacally better than avg offensively and defensively at their position. Hairston and Wright
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:57 pm
I think talks with BOS pretty much got nowhere.
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:57 pm
Tejada and murphy were below average?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:57 pm
How much did Tejada miss by?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 8:58 pm
Murphy way below AVG defensively
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:58 pm
Offensively by a hair
Scott

December 4, 2012 – 8:58 pm
Reddick is a good defender with a strong arm
Name

December 4, 2012 – 8:58 pm
Oh. Missed the defensive part. I dont think hairston was above average defensively though
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 8:59 pm
Hairston was, only in LF where he belonged
Scott

December 4, 2012 – 9:00 pm
Are you guys as stunned as i was that Pagan got 4-40?
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:00 pm
Defense is overrated in my opinion
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:00 pm
With the starting pitching, the defense will sabotage them
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:00 pm
No, I think there’s more dollars available and few studs to spend it on.
Scott

December 4, 2012 – 9:00 pm
do you mean defensive statistics or defence in general?
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:01 pm
I was stunned at pagan deal too. Biggest surprise was when they called him a positive clubhouse guy
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:01 pm
There is one way to lessen the gap between runs scored and runs against ratio. Defense and it is affordable
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:02 pm
Pagan has been really good 2 of the last 3 years. And 2009 was a good year, too, in limited action.
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:02 pm
the bat is more important simply because you bat more than you field plays
Scott

December 4, 2012 – 9:03 pm
We gave him away for a pittance
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:03 pm
playing Duda in left is “no defense”
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:03 pm
Pagan played with his head up his *** in 2011 and was due to make more $$ than the Mets had for him.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:04 pm
the Pagan trade ended up terrible but at the time I was for it. Just didn’t work out
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:05 pm
Yeah, their options were limited
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:06 pm
if they kept him, they couldn’t have afforded him now
Bobby Townsend

December 4, 2012 – 9:06 pm
Red Sox will not deal any of their top prospects
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:07 pm
He was also an idiot on the basepatj and a negative influnce in the clubhouse in 2011
Bobby Townsend

December 4, 2012 – 9:08 pm
Jokim Soria just signed a two-year deal with Texas. Another off the market whom the Mets could have had interest in.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:08 pm
Mets kept Havens out of Rule 5? Valdespin is having attitude problems in winter ball. What’s the story?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:08 pm
The Mets keep getting linked to FA who’ll receive big money and I just don’t see it.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:09 pm
Mets don;t really need to sign free agent relievers
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:09 pm
Yes, Havens still on 40-man and I think that’s a mistake. He’ll never amount to anything now. It’s too bad – if he didn’t get hurt all of the time he could have been a good one.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:09 pm
How do you think Mets’ pen shakes out if they don’t sign any FA relievers?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:10 pm
Frank-Frank, Parnell, Edgin, Carson, Hefner — seems like there’s two openings
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:11 pm
Familia and two late veteran FA signings
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:12 pm
late signings were the way to go last year and the Mets miscalculated and signed early instead
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:13 pm
Attitude problems have followed JV around in the minors. He didn’t show any with the Mets but I guess we can’t be surprised when they showed up again in Winter Ball.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:13 pm
It just takes one in a clubhouse to make going to work on a losing team unbearable
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:13 pm
Do you expect Familia to be on the Opening Day roster?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:14 pm
I always liked Casey Stengel’s line – you’ve got to keep the five guys who hate you away from the five guys who haven’t made up their mind yet
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:14 pm
Yes I do because the Mets have too many in the pipeline to wait on him in 2013
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:15 pm
You think they’ll start the year with both he and Carson? That seem risky to me.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:15 pm
I’m bullish on a homegrown bullpen. Lots of options to choose from
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:15 pm
he will have to earn it in ST , though
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:16 pm
I’m bullish also, it seems to work for other teams
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:16 pm
Like Blaine Boyer?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:16 pm
Ha
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:17 pm
Brad Eamus?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:17 pm
I’m still staggering from the Manny Acosta non-tender. Maybe they can bring him back?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:18 pm
Did Emaus really win a job or did he get it by default because of his Rule 5 status?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:19 pm
Brian, you have always provided great reasons for Acosta but he can’t go wire to wire
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:19 pm
Eamus was a “godfather” job from the front office
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:19 pm
If only he had a pitching coach to help him over the rough patches…
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:21 pm
A 1.78 ERA over his final 25.1 IP
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:21 pm
Another year of Warthen and his changeups, Mejia reliefing, and just a poor job. Can’t believe it
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:21 pm
There you go again!
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:22 pm
So, where is Sandy going with the Mets tonight?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:23 pm
4 years of 4th place is tough to take
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:24 pm
Cameron at Fangraphs says the Mets could be close, like the O’s and A’s
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:24 pm
I wonder if Dickey can tell Harvey just to tune out everything Warthen tells him
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:24 pm
Look what the Mets did in the first half while getting nothing from Davis — it’s not far fetched if the pitching holds up.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:25 pm
Exactly, that is why you only trade the pitching in a no brainer trade
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:26 pm
From the sound of it, Alderson is being very patient with trades
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:26 pm
plug in some low cost, above avg corner OF’s and take your chances
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:27 pm
Well, that’s also the time period when Wright was an MVP and Nieuwenhuis hit well, too.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:27 pm
It’s not realistic to count on that much again
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:27 pm
unfortunately the catching position can only be remedied by trade
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:28 pm
and the bullpen is still weak, Frankie is not a closer to be comfortable with
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:28 pm
I still hold out some hope with Thole…
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:28 pm
Bullpen schmullpen
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:28 pm
what do u mean 365
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:29 pm
Just by blind luck – the pen has to be better in the first half than it was last year.
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:29 pm
I think people put too much emphasis on being at least average at each position. Even winning teams have many holes
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:29 pm
If Frank-Frank is our weak link I think we’ll be okay.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:30 pm
I mean the Mets needn’t worry about the bullpen, they have enough good arms theyy ought to be able to fashion something
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:30 pm
Thole at best is a backup catcher. He has had ample opportunity
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:30 pm
I buy the bullpen logic 365
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:30 pm
And he was also doing a solid job last year before the concussion.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:31 pm
Thole, poor D, no power, less contact. But I like him on the team, just not starting
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:31 pm
Thole to me isn’t going to be a starter on a good team
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:32 pm
at times he looked like he might be enough of a batting-average/OBP guy that you could live with the subpar recieving and power but even that’s pretty underwhelming
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:33 pm
Josh had his chance
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:33 pm
Gotta give him some credit for catching dickey
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:33 pm
.278/.360/.375 — would you be okay with that line from Thole?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:33 pm
w/o a doubt
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:33 pm
this must be a trick question
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:34 pm
That’s what he did from May 3 until the end of the year in 2011
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:34 pm
And it’s not like it was some BABIP fluke — he did it with a .303 BABIP
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:35 pm
.284/.356/.370 — that’s what he had last year before the concussion.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:35 pm
true, but he didn’t adjust in 2012 and Hudgens really screwed him up. Backman was the one that straightened Thole out and got him to the majors
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:35 pm
Yea. Its amazing how perspectives change when you disconect names from stats
360fan_352

December 4, 2012 – 9:36 pm
Hey guys did I miss anything?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:36 pm
I don’t think it’s a given he’s going to come back and do that in 2013 but he’s proven that healthy he can be an asset and it’s too soon to give up on him as a starter.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:36 pm
I think a good team requires something more dependable than what Thole’s offering at this point
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:36 pm
The options are limited to be sure.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
Perhaps. But no one knows what Thole’s offering at this point.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
Thole with those #’s work except that Tejada, Murphy CF and RF don’t hit for power either.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
To me getting 2 OF is so much more important than getting a catcher.
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
This is Dan Stack. Not 360fan_352. Hope all is well with everyone
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
I wonder if Kelly Shoppach will lose some of the 40 pounds he needed to over the offseason
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:37 pm
Supposedly Mets not thrilled with his work while he was here.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:38 pm
Hey Dan – glad you culd join us
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:38 pm
Shoppach sounds like history but I don’t agree. Really want Arcenibia
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 9:39 pm
Cool, no problem. So in recap, what is the consensus on the player we should get most this off-season?
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:39 pm
That guy was so fat
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:39 pm
I dunno – JP Arencibia seems like the Rod Barajas experience all over again.
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:40 pm
Does Anthony Recker have a shot?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:40 pm
The power – young- and what else is out there? Saltamachia?
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:41 pm
You stumped me on Recker – who is that?
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 9:41 pm
Well, we need a righty catcher. Who else? I assume Toronto doesn’t want to part ways with D’Arnaud
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:41 pm
He played ball with Lutz in college
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:42 pm
Jesus Flores is available for a song. Not sure why the Mets won’t give him a flyer.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:42 pm
Can the Mets afford to take D’Arnaud with such a young staff?
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:42 pm
Looks like a 4A guy. Flores not much since his injuries.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:43 pm
Flores is a fall back – they need to do better
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:43 pm
That’s why he’s available for so cheap. Any catcher worth anything gets money. I’ve got to run out for 15 minutes or so.

Steve Ra

December 4, 2012 – 9:48 pm
Okay doing this on the phone blows. Night all
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 9:48 pm
How about Mark Reynolds in the outfield? Don’t like it, but we need some thump and he’d probably be better than Duda?
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:49 pm
It is hard to trade Dickey but this kid could be around for many years and he is a blue chip
Name

December 4, 2012 – 9:50 pm
Blue chips can still fail.
Metsense

December 4, 2012 – 9:50 pm
Dan, I want defense for the starting pitching’s sake, not another liability
360fan_365

December 4, 2012 – 9:50 pm
I’d like Reynolds a lot if he’d accept a role on the bench

The Mets are in a position where they almost have to deal pitching for outfielders. Dickey presumably would bring the most so it ought to be him but if a comparable haul comes through Matt Harvey let’s do that.

Im wary of all royals prospects. Gordon moustakas hosmer were all blue chipd and none have started out well

The Wilpon’s have put the franchise between a rock and a hard place

I think the Mets have to trade Dickey or Niese if they expect to get anything that legitimately help the OF in 2013. If not, you’re gonna relay on the likes of Hairston, Ross, Reynolds, etc.

Alex Gordon did okay at age 24 (.783 OPS) and then got jerked around the next two years. There’s absolutely no reason he should have received fewer than 500 PA at age 25 and 26 for the Royals. That says more about their org than it does about him.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:58 pm
And of course he’s been real good the past two years.
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 9:58 pm
That’s 500 PA combined for those two early prime seasons.

The Mets are looking for a veteran left-handed reliever, and they’ve inquired about LHP Manny Parra (Sherman, NYP) The Mets have shown interest in free-agent LHP John Lannan (Sherman, NYP). The Mets are open to offering free-agent OF Ryan Ludwick a two-year deal, worth between $6-7 million per year (Davidoff, NYP).
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 10:03 pm
I think Ludwick is not done yet, and if he got consistent at-bats he could hit 30 or so HR’s

Parra and lannan arent really relievers…

December 4, 2012 – 10:04 pm
Yeah, I’m not thrilled with any of those three…

Ludwick seems like a 20-HR guy at best to me. He really took advantage of CIN last year.

December 4, 2012 – 10:07 pm
True, but how many at-bats did he have? If he got more, he could have gotten close to 35-40, right?
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 10:08 pm
In any event, I think we need at least two new upgradeable OF’s
Brian Joura

December 4, 2012 – 10:09 pm
It’s weird – he only got 422 ABs but it doesn’t look like he was platooned and he didn’t seem to have any DL stint
DanS

December 4, 2012 – 10:11 pm
how many HR’s did he hit anyway last year?
