Going back to the minutia of the 2012 season for a look at changes on various major offensive All Time Met records list.

First, the biggest one that happened in 2012 was David Wright’s ascension as the Met All Time Hit King.  Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool’s previous record of 1,418 and is currently sitting at 1,426 base hits.  Interestingly enough, it should be fun to see Wright, and the Mets, move up the food chain in terms of All Time Franchise Hits Leaders.  Currently the Mets are 28th, although with Michael Young being traded from the Rangers to the Phillies, Wright is only the third currently active Hit King behind the Yankees’ Derek Jeter and the Rockies’ Todd Helton.

Daniel Murphy is the only active Met in the top 50, checking in at number 42 with 467 base hits.

In another significant historical offensive category, homeruns, Wright notched the 200th homer of his career, and finished 2012 with 204.  Good enough for 3rd on the Met All Time list, trailing only Darryl Strawberry’s 252 and Mike Piazza’s 220.  Ike Davis’ 32 homer season gives him 58 total, which is good for 29th on the All-Time list.  Incidentally, since it was brought up with hits, Strawberry’s total is good for 24th on the franchise record holder rankings.

Under reported, in terms of it being considered a historically significant stat that gets tracked by the media especially when player is reaching a vaunted milestone, was David Wright surpassing Darryl Strawberry in Met RBIs.  Wright is your current leader with 818.  And both Murphy and Davis cracked the top 50 this past year, and are sitting at 41 (194) and 44 (186) respectively.

Wright also ran (pardon the pun) past Jose Reyes to sit all alone on top of the runs scored category with 790.  Daniel Murphy again cracks the top 50 in a category, and is sitting at 47 with 195 runs scored.

Wright did enter 2012 as the Mets All-Time leader in Total Bases, Extra Base Hits and Doubles.  Currently he leads Murphy in active TBs 2,398 to 684 (43rd All-Time), and active doubles 322 to 115 (19th All-Time, Davis is tied for 50th with 67).  Extra Base Hits aren’t charted in UltimateMets.com.

Wright also put himself in the top 10 on the Stolen Base list, finishing last year at 166.  And finally, in terms of Games Played and At Bats, Wright is now third all-time in Games with 1,262 (behind Ed Kranepool’s 1,853 and Bud Harrelson’s 1,322), with Murphy checking into the top 50 at #47 with 469.  And Wright’s 4,742 trails only Ed Kranepool’s 5,436, and Murphy’s 1,601 is good for 44th.
