2007 BOWMAN’S BEST DAVID WRIGHT

O Captain, my Captain…

OK, OK, I’ll get off the top of my desk for a minute to talk about our Mr. Wright.

The New York sports media do not occur naturally where I live, nor do I seek them out actively on my own. So while I imagine that David Wright being named captain of the Mets got back-page/top-of-fold play up north, down here in Virginia it was sidebar fodder– I only heard about it by the grace of an RSS feed.

It is to my mind a wholly appropriate honor. After all, Wright is the best home-grown offensive player in team history, and a dedicated and seemingly honorable guy.

And as opposed to the team’s previous excursions into captaincy, I think that this one actually has the potential to be somewhat meaningful. The Mets will no doubt struggle this year, but there will be visible glimmers of hope in the form of some solid young talent. And that young talent will have the benefit of learning big league comportment from the man with the C on his chest.

So here’s a cardboard salute to you, Captain Wright, in shiny 2007 Bowman’s Best form…

They’ve announced that he will not wear a “C” on his jersey. Do you think he has a scarlet “C” burned into his chest from the suffering of the past six years?

David Wright, it is so great to know that someone like David, who started “HERE IN NEW YORK” will be “CAPTAIN” of thie team. I’ve watched David play every single game and get involved in everything that was going on. It makes me proud to say that I watched the very first game that he ever played as a met and i will watch the very last game he will play as a met. David has PRIDE to be a MET, and that makes me the happiest out of it all. It’s his love of the game, his love of his team tat i believe he should of been a captain after John Franco was traded from this team, and that KILLED ME. U go David, so happy that U are on “OUR” side.

    Franco was traded?

I agree with the lack of a C. Looks hokey on a baseball uniform.

Neat card. Kind of partial to his Topps base ones.

No Franco left as a free agent.
