The 2013 MLB All-Star game will be hosted by the Mets this season at Citi Field on July 16th, which is exciting in itself, but the potential of having multiple Mets representing the organization in the game could make it a memorable day for the franchise.

The Mets have eight players on the ballot for the 84th edition of the All-Star game, which is voted on by fans: Ike Davis, Daniel Murphy, David Wright, Ruben Tejada, John Buck, Mike Baxter, Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

The AL All-Star team will have nine elected starters via the fan balloting program, including a designated hitter, while the NL All-Star team will have eight fan-elected starters.

The pitchers and reserves for both squads (totalling 25 for the NL and 24 for the AL) will be determined through a combination of player ballot choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers — AL skipper Jim Leyland of the Tigers and NL manager Bruce Bochy of the defending World Series champion Giants.

The balloting for fans to vote is now open and surely Mets fans have already started to vote for John Buck, who is surprising the entire baseball world with his tremendous offensive start and managers surely have the name of Matt Harvey on their minds. Harvey is pitching better then any other starter in the game right now.

Buck is hitting .277/.300/.631 with 7 HR and 22 RBI. The catcher is second in the NL in home runs behind Justin Upton – who is playing out of this world – first in RBI and fifth in slugging percentage.

He may also be the reason for the impressive start of Harvey. Buck has been behind the plate in all of Harvey’s starts and the twosome seems to have things working very well.

Harvey is absolutely eating up his opposition this season. In four starts, the right-hander has a ridiculous ERA of 0.93 with 32 K in 29 IP. He’s thrown at least seven innings in all of his starts and has only allowed 10 hits in total. Harvey’s WHIP is 0.66 and teams are only hitting .108 off of him. He’s also out-pitched former CY Young award winner Roy Halladay and Nationals fire-baller Stephen Strasburg.

Buck and Harvey are the popular early season choices to appear in the All-Star game, but does anyone else deserve to be there?

Do you think Wright deserves to have his starting spot back at third, after losing it to Pablo Sandoval last season?

Will you vote for Davis, even though he’s off to such a cold start?

Will players such as Tejada, Murphy or Duda make it even though their names are not associated with very much fan fare?

Tell us in the comments section who you think deserves to be in the All-Star game and let’s see if Mets fans are going to pencil in their team favourites for the ‘Midsummer Classic.’

Except for the outfield, I voted my 25x for Mets players, with the notion that Buck and Wright (Murph?) would have the capacity to make the team. I was very pissed at the full court press the Giants did to push sandoval over the limit last year. DW has made it clear that he would like to be the starting 3B this ASG, and would trade all other appearances if he could to do so. We should work hard to see he gets it.

I reserve my AS voting until late June but don’t get me started on the Giant ballot stuffing from last year. Wright earned it and was robbed! I’ll never vote for a Giant again. Wright, Buck, Murphy and Duda all could be considered but hey it is only April.

Doesn’t matter if you’re deserving or not, in the end, it’s a popularity contest and that’s all it will ever be.

I find it ridiculous that MLB needs to start hyping up the All-Star game when the calender hasn’t even flipped to May yet.

And who chooses these candidates? Kirk has never had any sense of a starting role on this squad and was recently sent to the minors… yet he is one of the candidates over JV or even Cowgill, who hasn’t played much but at least was “proclaimed” by Terry to be our starting CF. And even Baxter realy shouldn’t be on the list considering that Byrd has nearly twice the amount of PA’s as him.

I’d be careful about giving Buck an all star label just because he has done well, but it’s still very very early in the season
