1998 UPPER DECK REY ORDONEZ GROOVY KIND OF GLOVE

Lest you think that Mike Piazza was the only Mets player featured in the pop-culture-happy insert sets of days gone by, here’s Rey Ordonez on a 1998 Upper Deck Retro Groovy Kind of Glove card.

Because of course there was nothing more relevant to the kids of the late ’90s than a twice-over easy-listening hit (The Mindbenders in 1966 and Phil Collins in 1988).

After doing a bit of research, I’ve discovered that UD entertained a host of different names for this set, touching on a variety of musical genres. Presented here for the first time is the full list of rejected titles:

Glove Hangover
Calling Dr. Glove
G.love & Special Sauce
Glove is the Drug
Glove Will Keep Us Together
Glove Will Tear Us Apart
Glove Vigilantes
You Can’t Hurry Glove
How Deep is Your Glove?
Tainted Glove
Glove Her Madly
The One I Glove
Let My Glove Open the Door
I Glove a Man in a Uniform
Debbie Gibson is Pregnant With My Two-Headed Glove Child
