Turner DudaPerhaps you’ve seen the Mets’ video Holiday Card.  Perhaps you’re only being subjected to it now.  The card is interesting for some very iffy reasons.  For one, the singing is awful, but you’d expect that.  The other interesting note is who is featured.

David Wright puts in his time as the face of the franchise

Mr. and Mrs. Met make an appearance

Matt Harvey lends his dulcet tones

Travis d’Arnaud proves that being tone deaf does not hinder one’s catching ability

Justin Turner leads a very terrified looking Lucas Duda through some

Dillon Gee does his best but seems a little rhythmically challenged

Jonathon Niese serves a lyrical line

And Zack Wheeler closes things out with the Happy Holliday message

Does it not strike anyone else that a couple voices are notably missing?  I didn’t expect Ike Davis (who is halfway out the door) but where was, fan favorite, Daniel Murphy?  Where was Bobby Parnell?  The Mets are hardly gun-shy about trading someone who is simultaneously being used for publicity but it strikes me that this video was pretty well planned.  The video gives a glimpse into what, I think, is the Mets’ internal core.  Those players that management sees as part of the Met future are showcased, those that may soon find their way out of Flushing… less so.

I’ve been on the side of trading Murphy for a while so I won’t say that this little holiday conspiracy really outrages me too much, but I thought it particularly odd.  What this says to me is that Alderson is expecting Murphy to be on another franchise before Christmas.  It also tells me that the Met brass is still desperately trying to get the Met fan base excited about Lucas Duda starting at first.

Is this a blogger making news out of non-news?  TOTALLY!  The theory still seems pretty sound.  Can anyone think of another reason not to include the Mets’ second best offensive player in marketing materials?

We can only hope Jeff doesn’t decide it’s cheaper just to get the players to sing after the game rather than bring in real musical acts.

      Here’s my Conspiracy Theory:

Bud Selig to retire following 2014 season. Until then, no pictures of Jeff and MLB brass, because our own MLB appointed GM becomes the new Commissioner. His first decision is to fires the Wilpons. Mets fans rejoice!

Can Mets 360 and all the other blogs get together and stage a strike outside citifield when tickets go on sale. So we can protest what we all feel needs to be done, and that’s to get rid of this ownership!!!! We have to speak up more than we have. Unless we make a big stink the comissioner and everyone else will not listen.
Here is a my small list of reasons why they should sell
    1) The Madoff Scam- b.s. they didn’t know
    2) They don’t have money- but they still charge us tops in the league for tickets and tv subscriptions
    3) They are not allocating enough $$$ from SNY to the ball club- Cablevision was probably giving us more 10 years ago
    4) The Wilpons always put their foot in their mouths- by saying the wrong thing all of the time
    5) By building citifield as a homage to more Brooklyn dodgers memorabilia than NY mets stuff
    6) by letting Reyes walk without even making an offer
    7) How is it possible that the Yankees have more than double our payroll when we play in the same city
    8) We keep losing fans to our crosstown rivals when we had just as many fans as them just 15 years ago
    9) How can they afford to build anything across the street from Citi if they have no $$$$
    10) And how they didn’t retire Mike Piazzas number is beyond me
Please feel free to add more because I probably missed a ton more. I also think single game tickets at the stadium go on sale after the new year, so we should have time to organize this pretty well.
What do we need to organize something this big? We always talk the talk, now lets walk the walk.

Ans no Black or Hispanic players too Dave! So much for being all-inclusive and in touch with their fan base. At least one Feliz Navidad should have been taped. The Mets need a new image from top to bottom. Or a better public relations firm.

David, Murph was last spotted in LA talking to Magic trying to talk his way into a non roster invite for Spring. His Greyhound ticket showed travel onward to Cincinnati…not sure what to make of all this though.

Hmmm. Let me offer my input on this critical issue. One hypothesis is that Murph may have simply declined to do it. Maybe he just didn’t want to and/or had some other commitment at the time the video was shot.

Also it should be noted that he was marketed as Santa Claus for the upcoming Christmas party…so if we reason that they wouldn’t market a player on a Christmas card that they plan to trade before Christmas, it would also stand to reason they wouldn’t announce a player as Santa if they planned to trade him before Christmas.* (Though maybe there is a secret understudy ready to take over in case a trade does take place).

On a related note, or an alternative hypothesis if you will, maybe taking on Santa duties allowed Murph to get out of singing duties this year. After all, given the “Curse of Santa” that has befallen many a Mets player in recent years playing Santa is just as much “taking one for the team” as having to sing a terribly off key holiday song.

As for Parnell he was hurt and probably not around the team much. And was rocking that bandage on his neck…maybe they didn’t want that on the holiday video. Though I suppose he could’ve rocked a scarf.

*It should also be noted that being Santa at the Christmas party does not preclude one from being traded after said party.

Hey Dave! You promise to boycott Citifield when they trade him?
