‘Tis the season to be jolly, right? In the holiday spirit I figured it would be a fun idea to create a Christmas list for Mets’ fans. This will (1) allow us to wish for what we want, and (2) process what we probably are not going to get.

So without further ado, here are the top-five things on this Mets fan’s list:

5. A resolution at First Base.

Lucas DudaThe Mets have kept their First Base situation in limbo for about the past year- and-a-half. Everyone hoped that Ike Davis would unlock his potential, but that didn’t happen. Davis should be moved to another team in return for an outfielder or reliever. This would be good for both Davis and the Mets. The Mets would free up their logjam at first base, and Davis would get a change of scenery. It’s time for the Mets to utilize the platoon of Josh Satin and Lucas Duda to the best of their ability. Duda and Satin are the solution, not the problem.

4. Relievers.

The bullpen is always a difficult thing to build. Relievers aren’t consistent, and the market tends to overpay for premium arms. Bobby Parnell had a great season for the Mets last year before going down with a neck injury. Reports indicate that it’s questionable whether Parnell will be ready to begin the year. Even if Parnell is ready, it’s still a good idea to have an extra reliever or two on hand in case there is some sort of injury.

3. Another Outfielder.

If Alderson has done one thing well this offseason, it would be his construction of the outfield. The signings of Chris Young and Curtis Granderson both improve the team. For Alderson to take the Outfield to the next level he is going to have to find a platoon partner for Chris Young. We also know that Juan Lagares’ bat can only get you so far. A decent hitting outfielder is a pretty nifty tool that will make the outfield balanced.

2. A Shortstop.

Two of the biggest flaws in Alderson’s tenure are (a) not trading Jose Reyes away for prospects prior to his free agency, and (b) allowing Reyes to leave. The Mets’ shortstop solution of Omar Quintanilla was pretty desperate. The Mets need to fill that hole either by trade or free agency. Positive production out of a shortstop is a must-have.

1. New Owners.

This has been on a lot of Mets fans’ Christmas list for a long time. It’s frustrating for a fanbase to watch Ownership turning a big-market team into a small-market team. Wilpon should realize that it is time to let the franchise go. It will be better for everyone. Fellow Mets360 writer David Groveman sums it up pretty well in his Christmas Jingle: Wilponless-Christmas.

Wilpon should be visited by the three spirits of Christmas. Maybe he would buy Alderson the biggest goose in the window.

A very good list! The shortstop should be a leadoff batter, too! As for the Wilponzis, it is a disgrace that a NYC team has a budget of under $90 million. The NY Yankees penalty alone was about 1/3 of that amount!

only one thing on my list … SS Steve Drew. The glue for the middle of the infield defensively, a plus hitter for the position, someone that only will require signing through his age 33 season, and probably for awfully close to $12MM per season.

  • John Zakour

Agreed on all. It would be nice to land Drew and lose the owners.

Yes we know the Wilpons love the Mets, but so do we! If you love them as much as we do please sell the team to the highest bidder who has enough cash to establish a winning tradition at Flushing.
