1981-mets-ybThe winter is always a tough time for baseball fans. Besides the frenzy that is the winter meetings, it’s a quiet offseason. Each passing day brings baseball one day closer from coming back. Now, it’s less than a month away.

And it’s time to get excited about Mets baseball. It’s time to throw out on the talk of statistics, signings, who’s better for what position and it’s finally time to play baseball again. Spring training brings a time to get excited about your respective team for the upcoming season, and for Mets fans it’s no different.

2014 is the first year where the Mets were supposed to compete again.  Losing Matt Harvey did not help those dreams of fans everywhere. But, that’s no reason to dwell. Travis d’Arnuad is about to play his first full major league season for the Mets. Same goes for Zack Wheeler.  New additions Curtis Granderson, Chris Young and Bartolo Colon are finally going to be able to show if they were worth the monetary commitment.  Young prospects like Noah Syndergaard, Rafael Montero and Juan Lagares are going to develop right before our eyes.

Spring training is the first glimpse into all of this. It’s also a time to watch the development of Lucas Duda, Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada and Jenrry Mejia. All of the guys have important roles to play in 2014, and this is where those roles begin. Then they are the veterans of the group: David Wright, Daniel Murphy and Bobby Parnell. What I call the leadership of the team is about to take a huge step forward as both on the field players and off the field leaders.

Mets baseball is fun again. It’s been a rough journey, going through this entire process. But that’s why Mets fans are “true New-Yorkers”.  Baseball is back. The 2014 season could go a whole bunch of ways. It could be great, or it could be just another year in this re-build. Either way, people are excited about Mets baseball again. And that’s a good thing.  The path back to success begins now.

A lot of talk about the mets winning as many games as last year but I really believe they could and should compete for a wild card after all their are two wild cards and they should be
much improved but everything has to go right and fall into place but isn’t that true with every team! They are going to have one of the best young starting staffs in baseball in 2015
when Harvey returns but in the mean time Colon, Wheeler, Niese, Gee, and Mejia should give the mets a very good staff and adding Granderson, Young,(who I’m not crazy about) and a full
year of Wright, Travis, and Lagares not to mention Murphy (who is our best pure hitter) and
their offense should be a lot better than last year! SS and firstbase are big ?’s but hopefully Tejada and Davis/Duda find themselves and have come back years. I wish they would
have played Flores at first base in winterball! Starting off the year with a platton of Davis
or Duda and Flores would be stronger than Satin who will make a great bench player and super
    sub!

Like to see some nice steady progress and good fundamental baseball. Like move the runner over, hit the cut off man, take the extra base, put in the right guy at the right time to pinch hit or pinch run, and effectively use the bullpen.

wouldn’t it be nice if everything just went right this year, and the team came together with a good fighting to win spirit.

I think this team will be better than people think. They are going to strike out, but they should also hit for power and run a bit.
Davis and Tejada had historically bad years and TDA couldn’t get started. To think all three of those situations will repeat is a stretch.
    I think it’ll be a fun year.

I love this time of year. I finally get to go down to Florida and see some ST this year. I plan on writing home, literally. Let’s Go Mets!

Spring training…… A time when hope springs forth each year for every fan. With that said, I need to see how all the pieces fall in place as a Met fan since watching Duke Snider man center. I see improvement, but Collins needs to put it together. Ganderson doesn’t hit LHP well, Chris Young doesn’t hit RHP. Watched CY melt down in Arizona since I live here now. This is a team that needs to learn sound situational baseball. Veterans need to step up and be teachers, as well as leaders. I believe chemistry will be what makes a difference. It has on every team that wins. We need to play with some attitude/ toughness/ as well as arrogance. Speed is the highlight of this team, use it to force errors, make the other teams fear our speed. This is the National League, not the American League. So take note of that Mr Collins, we can’t be sitting on the long ball, especially at Citifield. I see this team being capable of at least 150 SB’s this year. Using every weapon you have creates pressure on opponents.
