David Wright is the winner of MLB Network & MLB.com’s “Face of MLB” contest. Here is the bracket and how Wright advanced to the winner’s circle:

Wright beat Eric Sogard in the finals. If Sogard seems like an odd choice, there’s a reason behind it. Turns out that a lot of people thought the contest was, well, pointless. So they rallied behind Sogard as a type of protest vote. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jose Bautista was taking the contest very seriously, promising to follow individuals on Twitter if they voted for him. Sogard beat Bautista in the semis.

The bottom line is that one year after being dubbed “Captain America” due to his spot on the WBC, Wright is now the Face of MLB. May it be the first of many awards for him this season. Now let’s hope Wright sings this tune to NL East foes

“I’m the face baby, is that clear,
I’m the face baby, is that clear,
I’m the face if you want it,
I’m the face if you want it, dear,
All the others are third class tickets by me, baby, is that clear.”

Brian, the real issue is how did Ryan Braun even get into this contest? There would have been a lot of red faces if he won.

As this was a popularity contest, there was no chance of Braun winning. You’re right though, it would have been fun to have seen Bud Selig’s reaction when he heard the news that Braun was the Face of MLB.

Haha, Mike Trout lost in the first round. Very silly, but still cool.
