My first thought was Tim Foli?

It’s our AAA manager Wally Backman

These are the not the Mets we’re looking for…

      Hahaha!

This looks early 1980s to me. The scrubs I remember with a stache are Jerry Martin and Rick Sweet. I seem to recall Sweet’s being bushier so I’m going with Martin.

    John Christenson ?

  • Doug Parker

    Still looking for a winner.

Probably a pitcher and showing him in a batting pose is a fake out.

  • Jim OMalley

    Ross Jones?

  • Doug Parker

Not a pitcher Steevy, and not Ross Jones, although that was an awesome guess.

On April 28, 1984, Jones came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth of a tie game with the first-place Phillies. Facing Al Holland, he smacked a walk-off double, driving in Hubie Brooks. This was his only hit in a Mets uniform.

A hint: Our subject here is also a member of the one-hit-as-a-Met club. In fact, that one hit was his only career hit…

    • Brian Joura

Using your hint – how about Mike Bishop? He has one career hit and played on the 1983 Mets.

      • Doug Parker

        You got it, Brian!

Bishop was a catcher who appeared in three April games for the 1983 Mets. His only MLB hit came in the backend of a doubleheader vs the Pirates, when he connected for a second-inning double off Lee Tunnell.

Bishop had some outstanding seasons in the Minors, including a 1980 campaign with AA El Paso wherein he batted .325 with 33 HRs and 104 RBI as a 21-year old. Hmm, a catcher whose offensive prowess does not translate from the Minors to the Majors…

The Mex cards will be in the mail in a couple of days!
