Daniel Murphy

Everyone here at Mets360 is proud that Daniel Murphy will be representing the Mets at the 2014 All-Star game in Minnesota.

Every year you hear some people complaining about the rule that requires each team to send a representative to the All-Star game. Without that rule in place, it’s up for debate if the Mets would have someone in the game. Regardless, there are a bunch of people who want to do away with this requirement, in an effort to make things better. My belief is that those people are misguided.

Somewhere, there’s an 8-year-old kid who’s going to watch the game and feel an extra sense of pride both when Murphy is introduced and when he gets in the game. And that scene will play out in other cities and states across the country when the lone representative All-Star makes his appearance.

The idea that we should do away with that, just so that Dominating Team A can have their sixth-best player in the game, is one I just don’t understand.

Good point about the 8-year-old kid. He/she is more important than any of us older farts who have a jaded opinion of the all-star game.

I feel that you can also justify a player from each team since home field advantage of the World Series is predicated on the outcome of the ASG. If a team didn’t have a player in the ASG and somehow (although unlikely) made the WS, it wouldn’t be fair that they had absolutely ZERO impact on the outcome of the ASG.

By having an individual from each team involved, I believe that each player is busting their butt to win so that if their respective club makes the WS, they have a slight advantage.

I also agree with your points though!

I read that when Daniel Murphy used to be asked, “What position do you play?”,that he used to respond, “I bat third”. Now he can proudly respond “All Star Second Baseman”.
    Congratulations Daniel Murphy!

Completely agree Brian. Every team should have one representative. And I love that the AS game matters. It’s the one time of year everybody from one league can play together for a common goal.

You mean have fun and enjoy life as the best in the game? 🙂
