Oscar TaverasAt the young age of just 22 years old, Cardinals’ top outfield prospect Oscar Taveras died Wednesday evening in a car crash. With him in the car was his girlfriend, whose name will not be included for personal purposes. But nonetheless, Taveras’ death means more than just another person dying. He was a “sky is the limit” type player, and played with his heart on his sleeve every game of the 2014 season.

Taveras may not have had the ideal rookie season, but that is not important. Every game that he played was special to him. He would view each game as a stepping-stone to the next, and always hoped to get better. He was truly loved by his teammates, the Cardinals’ front office, and baseball fans everywhere!

So far, the Cardinals have not made a statement concerning his death, because the details are not all out for the public view. However, Taveras was confirmed dead by his parents and his agent, and Commissioner Selig made a statement telling the world that his heart is with Taveras’ friends and family.

Wednesday, the baseball world was shocked due to the sudden death of Taveras, and it will continue to mourn throughout the offseason. Although the details of his death have not yet been released to the public, we do know this: Taveras was killed alongside his girlfriend in a car accident, he has been confirmed dead by both Taveras’ parents and agent, and we have lost a potential future MVP player too soon. On behalf of the writers here at mets360.com, I would like to say that our thoughts and prayers are with Taveras’ family, as well as his girlfriend.

I was immensely shocked to hear this news. It’s always sad to see a young person pass, but when you follow baseball like we do, you learn a great deal about these guys. Truly a shame.
