We apparently all deserve this. We were lulled into a sense of confidence and promise that this year would be different. But here we are, with a “starting shortstop” who is unable to throw the baseball 120 feet to a target roughly the size of a barn door. A bench player, who despite having a slugging percentage lower than his on-base percentage, has still managed to play six out of the last seven games because the so-called manager likes what he sees. A lineup that has struck out 23 times over the past two days, while walking twice. Twice!! And a team collectively hitting so bad that they rank seventh-worst in average, fifth-worst in OBP, and third-worst in SLG.

The last-place Brewers, who have the lowest-winning percentage in the game, who just trounced us, are worse than the Mets in two of those categories.

And the Mets pitching, far and away the most positive aspect of this team, has stumbled badly the past two games.

Is the year finished? No, not by a long shot. But with two key offensive players still weeks away from contributing, a disabled list that’s starting to look like the lawn triage scene from Gone With the Wind, and a front-office that seems allergic to making any significant addition via the trade market, these next two to three weeks will be make or break for any continued success moving forward. I’d go into highlights, but there were none. At least not for us.

So they weren’t as good as they looked when they won 11 straight, and they’re not as bad as this. But what I think they are is a .500 team, when all is said and done…

You hope. This lineup is reminiscent of the past several years. No balance, easy to pitch to as a result.

Do other teams go into collective batting slumps or is it just the Mets?

      No Matt. We are cursed.

Patrick the Met’s are capped out. Any trade is going to have to include payroll in some form. if Flores was moved from SS in the minors what makes management think he’ll succeed? With such a porous defense in the middle infield giving teams extra out, extra at-bats in going to eventually send this season down the toilet. The Met’s will be in third place by the end of the month. Collins will blame everyone but himself. Cuudyer in all honestly is exactly what the team got. An aging outfielder who can’t field and is regressing towards oblivion. Typical Alderson signing showing off his skills that he knows more then his counterparts. A gem in the rough? Right?! I don’t care that Granderson is getting on base. Why are you wasting 15 million dollars for that? It’s a hodgepodge of incoherent logic. The Met’s have solid SP and need the defense to at least play to MLB standards. Alderson you deserve this mess. You created it. Now I hope the Wilpon’s realize that it’s time to clean house. So much for Mets 360 forecasters belittling Las Vegas odds makers.

I think this is what the kids refer to as “the wheels falling off.” Yikes.

What happens when the Met’s start to play real teams like the Cards, Pirates and the entire Western division?

I fortunately only saw the last two innings of the game. Why were the Torres Twins used in a blowout loss? TC can find 100 ways to burn out a bullpen.
The unfortunate injury to Herrera is the perfect opportunity to promote Reynolds to play SS and move Flores to 2B leaving Murphy at 3B. Who knows, maybe you find your SS and a good hitting and average fielding 2B in the process. Sandy is too stubborn and instead promoted Campbell who already had a chance. Playoff teams should not be trying “who knows? in May but instead should have a backup plan in place. Shame on Sandy for going into the season without a net at SS.
Darrell Cecililani is a LHB, CF, batting .340 in Vegas. Kirk should be worried.

Hello all, does anyone here honestly believe that Mets could win tonight’s game? Or are they damned, cursed and no chance for winning?
