The Mets had 11 hits and scored five runs but it wasn’t enough, as they fell to the Giants, 8-5 Wednesday night at Citi Field.

  • Matt Harvey was not sharp. In his last inning he gave up four extra-base hits, including two homers. For the game, Harvey surrendered three gopher balls and now has allowed 12 HR in 79.2 IP and has a 15.4 HR/FB ratio. Announcer Ron Darling is practically begging for Mets hurlers to back some hitters off the plate.
  • Wilmer Flores had two RBIs on what Gary Cohen called a 16-hop hit. He also added a double. Curtis Granderson and Juan Lagares also had two-hit games.
  • The top two hitters for the Giants, Nori Aoki and Joe Panik, went a combined 7-for-10 with four runs scored. In the last five games, those two are 21-42 with 11 runs scored. Life’s so much easier when your top of the order guys get on base.
  • Ruben Tejada ended the game with a strikeout, the second straight contest that’s happened. Tejada is now hitless in his last 13 ABs. Hopefully Terry Collins moves him out of the second spot in the order immediately. Either Lagares or d’Arnaud would be preferable.

It is a real lousy feeling watching Harvey get knocked around. The reason the Mets were having a strong run was the starting pitching. The pitching has hit some bumps and the Mets don’t look so good right now.
TdA ripped a nice double which was a good sign and Lagares looks better at bat.
I know Campbell had an RBI single tonight but the reality is that there is a need for a 3B to get them through the next month.
Tejada had his nice run but it is time to get Herrera in there. He is the future at second base.

The season began with David Wright in the 2-hole, based on the conceit that the team’s “best hitter” should be there. Apparently a lot of electricity was burned figuring that out.

Now the Mets have Ruben Tejada in there.

Somehow that is a microcosm of the season.

But he may be one of our best hitters!

LOL, James. See what happens when you lie all the time?

Yesterday, TDA was activated and Muno sent down, leaving the Mets with a bench of Mayberry, Ceciliani, Plawecki (getting tests done on his dizziness), and Recker. Further, the Mets will keep this alignment until Dilson Herrera is activated. This team takes many things for granted, but one of its biggest mistakes is taking time for granted. Yes, there’s plenty of it, but it’s also passing all the time. Between eight relievers, but they lead the majors in innings per starter at 6.19 and two catchers, but one is unavailable, this team was close to putting a catcher on third yesterday in the middle of the game. These guys really expect to reinvent baseball, and no one is holding them accountable to any public redicule or any deflating morale to the players caused by this circus.

Remember when we used to talk about the circus in the Bronx? Isn’t this actually worse?

If we step outside our Mets feelings, isn’t it quite laughable as to the roster construction and the way the team’s manager cries about being short handed, so the front office makes them more short handed. To teach them a lesson? If I was a Yankees fan, I’d be doubled up on the floor with laughter.

The 8-man pen has crippled the offense all season — and on a team that typically gets big innings out of its starters.

It’s one of those big, innovative ideas that simply doesn’t work.

Interesting fact I heard last night. Tom Seaver, who made his debut in 1967, did not have a four start stretch where he gave up as many runs as Harvey’s last four until 1974.

  • Patrick Albanesius

Harvey gave up 3 home runs last night, and now has 12 for the year. 8 of them have come in his last 4 starts. He has a major problem, and no one seems to be addressing it.

Hes coming back from major reconstructive surgery after taking a year off from competition. Im not surprised. What is surprising is that the Mets are allowing him to go out there so much. He needs to miss starts not be delayed by a day. We need to be worried about the next three years too. The Mets handling of the staff and personnel in general has been typically Metsian. Cant walk and chew gum at the same time.
