The Mets took the series from the Los Angeles Dodgers today by winning the game 8-0. Quite the offensive showing from the ball club that has struggled to score runs the past couple of weeks.

  • Steven Matz pitched well, going six innings, letting up two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out eight. What took so long for the young lefty to be brought up? Oh, he also added another RBI, giving him five for the season.
  • Where in the world did Wilmer Flores‘ bat come from? He looked good batting cleanup, as he went 4-5 with three RBIs and two doubles.
  • Other multi-hit games came from Curtis Granderson, Juan Lagares, Daniel Murphy and Ruben Tejada.
  • Yasiel Puig misplayed a ball in right field as he was battling the sun, which gave Lagares a two-run triple.
  • Adrian Gonzalez left the game after being hit by a pitch from Matz.
  • Lucas Duda continues to struggle mightily at the plate, as he went 0-5 with three strikeouts.
  • Logan Verrett picked up a three-inning save and has become quite the weapon out of the bullpen.

Jon Niese will pitch tomorrow against the Giants, and Chris Heston will be pitching for the San Francisco Giants.

I live in SC so my Mets viewing is on MLB.COM. Watching the game was a total pleasure. My feed had Vin Scully announcing and he was all that an announcer should be. He let us know who was batting, the count and surprising enough the score while being very even tempered. Thank you MLB for letting us listen to a truely unbiased and pleasureable voice.

      Hey RobD,
I, too, live in SC. I use MLB.com on my TV, computer, iPad and iPhone. The iPad is my favorite because it rarely freezes and I get to choose whether I want GKR or the other team’s feed.
Since I grew up with Red Barber and Vin Scully doing the games from Ebbets Field, I have always been a fan of Mr. Scully. He’s the only broadcaster who pulls me away from GKR.

And, oh yes, Cuddyer left a small army on base.

“In the meantime, we’re left rooting for Flores. If history is any judge, he’ll go through a five-game streak where he pops a couple of homers and has everyone convinced he’s turned the corner. And then we’ll have a three-week stretch where he does nothing.” -Brian Joura, a prophet?

Always nice when someone remembers something you wrote!

I’m rooting for Flores to carry over his hitting from the LA series for the rest of the year.

I don’t know what you consider history but at age 23, Wilmer’s is rather limited.
Give him just a little more rope before you decide to hang him.

Not to get carried away but Syndergard and Matz have improved an already good pitching staff. The Mets have a back end starter to trade and also a relief pitcher.
Parnell is in his last year of his contract. Mejia will be back Tuesday. Eight runs were great and Granderson has put together a good first half. Let’s give Duda a rest. Cuddyer needs to play less. They got some distance from the Braves today. Nero, get us a bat !

“Nero, get us a bat !”
