It was a tight contest on Saturday night. Jacob deGrom was in trouble early and often, but after giving up two runs in the first inning, he settled down and put up zeros for five more innings. He went back out for the sixth even though his pitch count was 101. I think that shows faith in deGrom’s stamina and guts, and Terry Collins’ confidence in his starting rotation.

Lucas Duda finally put the Mets on the board in the fourth, then tied it up in the seventh, both solo home runs to bring his season total to 20. That’s eight home runs in his past seven games, for a slugging percentage well above 1.000. He also drove in the third Mets run in the eighth with a double, and was personally responsible for Citi Field’s decibel overload.

Jeurys Famila came in and shut the game down like he was doing all first half of the season. With that final strike on Michael Taylor, the Mets took the game, the series win, and tomorrow, maybe the division.

Winning the last two games and winning them in the later innings sends a very strong message to the Nats that this team is not going to roll over under pressure. August 2nd and playing for first place on Sunday Night Baseball. Sweet! I guess we should worry because Storen and Papelbon are rested !
Duda’s streak of 8 straight hits that were home runs came to an end when he could only manage a game winning double! The bullpen, Parnell, Robles and Familia put up three innings of zeroes. That was a relief in more ways than one.

The Nationals aren’t afraid of the Mets. The Nationals must be thinking that when its all said and done, they will prevail. The Mets need to overcome that confidence because the Mets are the upstarts.

Also, the Nats can say Scherzer, Zimmerman and Strausburg didn’t pitch, while the Mets threw their three best at home. But, there’s still one to go. My point is, we have a long way to go and they have battle tested players over there.

Be quiet texas. You forget we are still missing wright and tda just came back. I could care less if the nationals are scared……the mets are still coming

Correction: Zimmerman is pitching tomorrow, I thought they miss him.

Jake, you don’t know if Wright will make it back and what kind of production he will be capable of giving. Even DW doesn’t know. But, I don’t watch every game to expect a loss 😉
