The Mets scored runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth to earn a thrilling come-from-behind win over the Rays, 4-3, Friday night for their seventh straight win and fourth consecutive road victory.

  • Wilmer Flores blooped a single down the right field line for the go-ahead run. It was part of a two-run ninth, started when Lucas Duda reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Duda scored on a double by Michael Conforto.
  • Jeurys Familia came on in the 9th and earned his 30th save of the season but it was not without some drama. After a leadoff single, the next batter hit into an apparent double play but the ball was overruled to be foul, much to the chagrin of Terry Collins. It was the right call. Familia eventually clinched the game with a strikeout with the tying run at second.
  • The beginning of the game was all about the long ball. Grady Sizemore put the Rays on top but Juan Uribe crushed a ball to tie the game, 1-1. But Jacob deGrom surrendered a leadoff homer to James Loney, of all people. But the Mets got deGrom off the hook when Daniel Murphy pulled a HR to RF.
  • Tyler Clippard served up a gopher ball to Evan Longoria and looked to wear the goat horns before the Mets bailed him out in ninth.

Professional victory for the Mets tonight.

Great, Great win especially with the Nationals proving that it is their division to lose by coughing up a 4-1 lead and losing 5-4 on a CarGo grand slam. Sweet!
Uribe at third tonight with his clutch home run and fielding. Murphy with another home run while playing his second favorite position Batting Second ( he prefers Batting Third as his position) with another clutch hit. The rookie Conforto had a great at bat and doubled in the tieing run in the ninth. .There is no way that Conforto should be sent down instead of Campbell when Cuddyer comes back. Folk Heroe Flores topped the night off by knocking in the winning run. JDG pitched well and Familia did what he was supposed to do and got the save.
Duda was the tieing run and should have been pinch run for and Tejada should have also been a ninth inning defensive replacement. TC needs to look at these situations more closely. Great win and Thor goes for 8 tomorrow. LGM

If this were a month ago, any one of these scenarios happens:

    — Duda gets thrown out in the ninth.

    — Flores”s bloop is caught.

    — his bobble on the grounder in the bottom of the ninth gets no out instead of the one he got

    — Familia serves up at least the tying base hit, if not the winning HR.

Baseball fortune is smiling on the Mets right now…I love it!

    Fun game!

One painful moment for me occurred when Sizemore made the play on Wilmer’s home run bid> “He gave up his body to make the play,” Darling put it; in fact, Grady Sizemore pretty much gave up a career as a perennial All Star by giving up his body.
