While you can’t win them all, that was a little discouraging. Bartolo Colon was not sharp, again. He has alternated good and bad starts since July 7th, and even though he didn’t get pounded, it was just enough out of the reach of the Mets offense. Speaking of that offense, the last six batters in the lineup had a collective one hit and three walks. Yesterday the remaining five batters had a collective one hit and two walks.

The Mets will get better starting pitching than what they received the past two days. However, the bottom half of the lineup is critical to continued success. The addition of average productivity from David Wright would lengthen this lineup considerably, and help turn days like today and yesterday into more games like Friday. A return trip home to face Colorado will hopefully be their cure-all. If they win that series, they could be just the second team this year to collect 40 wins at home.

Second straight game that they’ve lost after staking the SP to a 3-0 lead.

And as Name pointed out in the Chatter, the Mets have lost 8 of the last 9 games Colon has started.

since our spirited discussion in the chatter 10 or so starts ago (where Name insisted on the general worthlessness of Colon), Colon has gone on to be a total disaster. The Mets lose when he starts. Now is time to reconsider the options, even if that means promoting Gee who at least is performing better in AAA. Every inning matters every game now. Colon would never be carried in the post season, so its time to really figure this out. A guaranteed loss is something very hard to pre-program as “acceptable”

Welp, nothing like choking away a perfect opportunity to put some real distance between them and Nats. Get em next time?

Nationals lost to Colorado, thanks Rocks. Kick your butts starting tomorrow, however.

that was close. It looks neither team really wants to step on the throat of the other team and just win this division.

The Nats were ripe to take that game, then let LeMahieu punch a grounder through 5.5 hole to score 2, then leave bases loaded in the 9th with a weak reliever surviving the heart of their order without giving up a run. That was so nice that it eclipsed the ugliness of our loss.

In the Chatter, Chris F stated he did not like the defensive allignment. He was right. Kelly Johnson should not have started in an unfamiliar right field position. Lagares subbing for the injured Granderson was the better choice. He also mentioned that Flores/Murphy was not a good keystone. It did not influence the game, but looking back at it, it is something that should not be repeated. These fine points may be called nit picking but if there are better options then why not excercise them? Every game has more magnitude now and every managerial decision is important.
Watching the end of the Nat – Rockies game I got the feeling the Nats need to get their heads screw on straight. It isn’t their division to lose. I hope they keep their attitude and not right their ship. LGM

Another brutal road game for Duda.3 strikeouts and a double play in 4 PA’s.
