Eudor GarciaBack in 2014, the Mets selected Eudor Garcia in the fourth round of the draft.  Garcia profiled as a first round talent but had flaws that held him from being drafted earlier.  Garcia’s biggest flaw is that he’s 5’11” and 225 Lbs.  He’s not a lithe and graceful infielder nor is he a giant powerful behemoth.  With his body profile the consensus opinion has Garcia shifting to first base or corner outfield.

In his first season with the Mets, Garcia wasn’t as impressive as Jhoan Urena (who flashed great tools in Brooklyn), but he did manage a respectable .674 OPS in Kingsport.  Still, his power did not look like it would justify a player who was as limited as Garcia clearly was.

2015 has been nothing short of a revelation.  Short of Becerra, there is no player on Savannah who looks like more of a potential star.  Garcia has, thus far, held onto playing 3rd base and he’s got a robust .780 OPS this season.  Hitting 9 home runs in 92 games is not that impressive but you can just about double home run totals from Savannah moving forward.  With Urena having a lost season in Port St. Lucie the Mets now have a difficult call in 2016.

Right now, Garcia is looking like the heir to David Wright and he should be ready by 2017.  Also, he’s hitting .410 over his last 10 games… so there’s that.

AAA:

Darrell Ceciliani is a good bench option – He’s been hitting for the past few weeks, he’s cut down his strikeouts and (other than Eric Young Jr) he’s one of the best speed guys in Met uniform.

Dilson Herrera thriving in AAA – He’s been hitting well over .300 since his demotion and has a robust OPS of .909 on the year.

AA:

Gavin Cecchini has earned a promotion – He’s hitting .317/.377/.442 on the year with only a 4 at bats in AA leading up to this year.  What else does he have to do?

Seth Lugo has a nice start – Last night, Lugo went 6.2 innings and only gave up 5 hits while walking none and striking out 12.

A+:

What do you make of Jeff McNeil He’s due a promotion and he’s hit well in Advanced A for a long time now.  At 23 and without much power or speed he’s really just organizational depth.

A:

Luis Guillorme has had a lot of success – He’s pretty low in the organizational depth charts but he’s looking more and more like a legitimate player to watch.

Wuilmer Becerra is going to be good – He’s even striking out less which was one of the last flaws with his game.

Corey Oswalt is one of the best pitchers left – With so many minor league starters gone via trade, Oswalt is one of the few positive stories left.

A-:

Tyler Badamo is mastering his WHIP – WHIP is one of the most telling stats for pitchers.  Badamo’s WHIP is sitting just under 1.00 on the year which is pretty great for a developing pitcher.

R1:

Patrick Mazeika is still hitting amazingly – He’s only hitting .395 over the past 10 games.  His OPS is over 1.000 for the year, so you can officially get excited.

Kevin Kaczmarski is keeping pace – Over his past 10 games he’s hitting .410 which would be great but these two players are not being served by staying in Kingsport.

Dash Winningham has a good week – He’s hitting.341 with power over his last 10 games.

Nabil Crismatt, we like you, whoever you are – He’s continued to have exceptionally good numbers on the mound but there is very limited information available on the internet.

R2:

Desmond Lindsey is looking like a good pick – He’s hitting .306/.403/.484 at the age of 18 in the GCL.  He’s a long way from the majors but it’s a fine way to start his career.

If Becerra develops into a major league player, that trade will go down as one of the lopsided deals of all time. Glad to hear he’s cutting down on strikeouts and performing at the level he is.

      Completely agree.

      Can you imagine?

He’s batting .382 with 7 BB and only 3 Ks over his last 10. What a deal.

I have watched Garcia steadily improve as the year has progressed. I am not as convinced as you that he will be Wright’s heir but his steady improvement is a good sign and I like him. Becerra is the player that I see in right field in the years to come. Guillorme has a good batting avg but no power but he does field his position well.
Jeff McNeil can hit but so could Jayce Boyd. It will be difficult for either to make it to the majors.
Herrera keeps putting up the numbers at AAA so he needs to translate it to the majors. I think he will.

Garcia “being” Wright’s heir is a stretch. I’m saying more that he’s making a run at being the top 3B prospect in the system.

I think with Herrera the Mets are going to have to write him in for the job at 2B and give him enough time to demonstrate an ability to retain it. The same opportunity that they gave Wilmer Flores. You have to build in time for the player to struggle while still supporting that player. It can’t always be, “If you hit, you play.”

The time for that is next season, I believe.

Of course, when I watch Wilmer Flores go the other way, poke hits to RF and hit ’em where they ain’t, I think I’m watching an eventual .300 hitter. Given Wright’s issues, the loss of Murphy, the weakness of Tejada, Flores represents an important player for the 2016 Mets — even if his role may be undetermined.

It’s hard to slot Herrera in above Flores, as much as I’ve come to like Wilmer, but I think I’d do it.

Very interesting to see how the middle infield plays out next season. For first time in a while though, we seemingly have plenty of options.

Lugo’s start was in AAA, which is more impressive

another one to keep an eye on.
