Only three Mets collected hits today, which has been a far cry from how things have been going. Even with a loss yesterday, the Mets still were able to score four runs on eight hits. It was just an unfortunate day where the team couldn’t seem to get anything going against Joe Kelly and the Boston Red Sox, who have been playing rather well of late. To add a little salt on the wound, Jacob deGrom came back from one of the worst starts of his career to pitch quite beautifully. He struck out 10 batters today, which is the sixth time he’s accomplished that this season. He was still stuck with the loss though after giving up the two runs that mattered.

Perhaps this game is more memorable due to it being the first time the Mets chose to use Bartolo Colon as a relief pitcher. Does this portend that Logan Verrett will be starting in Colon’s place next time through the rotation? Steven Matz still has one more scheduled start in the minors, so maybe the Mets are reconsidering the six-man rotation completely and just want Matz to take over for Colon through September. Or maybe both Verrett and Matz are headed for the rotation still. I’m not sure what the plans are, but we will likely hear soon.

Very disappointing 2 games back home after the great road trip.

It was a tough, long road trip. And we got back from PHL a little tired. And the staff is quite exhausted.

      smh

I guess I have seen enough of Collins to be able to predict the poop coming from his mouth…looking his comments over made me laugh

Another junky pick up in Addison Reed.

Cmon Alderson, just admit your mistake and recall Alex Torres.

Name, how do you think Reed will feel when in a 4-2 game in the seventh inning he strikes out Werth, he strikes out Rendon and here comes Harper. But, Collins is coming to pull him and bring in the lefty.

Is it only me that feels that after four years of do nothing now Alderson is going all in? He got two relievers in March, got three more now and going after a fourth. And, also traded for three bats, one of them a top bat that is a loner. Totally out of character. What’s up?

43,000 fans in the stands paying top dollar is what gives. He has a whole month of poor teams coming in that will bring in 35,000 a night and revenue for next years salaries. Reed’s $1m is chump change if it increases the chances of a division title and playoff revenue. On paper this was a good move. It is up to TC to utilize Reed properly and let him pitch the whole 7th.

Metsense, I’m glad to see this mindset; wish it could have come sooner. The spring trades were the first time Alderson traded kids for veterans – and one was a rental – but during the summer he really started moving youngsters. I don’t know if it was the refinancing of the debt this past June combined with being in first place but he has really shifted gears. Last year’s team could have used a little boost during the swoon of June but not a peep. But hey, it is nice to see.

Offense gets 12 walks and a loss games one….. 16 Ks for the Pitchers in Game 2–another loss….. sometimes, you just lose!
