The Mets got some critical rallies, and collected 12 hits on the way to their victory tonight. Daniel Murphy in particular has stayed hot over his past seven games, hitting .360/.385/.800, with two home runs, six RBI and just one strikeout. He was three-for-five tonight with a rare triple, while Lucas Duda appeared to be rounding back into form with two doubles and two RBI. Yoenis Cespedes was two-for-four, and collected two steaks as well. This offense still has the chance to be incredibly dangerous, even if some guys continue to slump. But having the heart of the order producing like it did tonight is very reassuring.

Steve Matz was a bit up and down. The Reds tallied 10 hits off the young lefty, but he also struck out eight, and walked no one. Matz is looking like a legitimate arm not just for next season, but for October baseball. IMHO, he could be a vital weapon to end Matt Harvey‘s brief starts in the near future. But I don’t know if this organization wants to go with an unorthodox approach.

The Yogi Berra picture is just because he’s one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

Mets now 17-3 in their last 20 road games and the magic number is down to 3!

Magic #3 and I can taste it, a Division Championship.
Anthony Rieber, of Newsday, had an interesting take on Matz use last night and how the Mets are preparing for the postseason pitching.
Howard Megdal has a very interesting piece on how the Mets became contenders. Megdal understands the financial situation better than anyone.

That is an outstanding article from Megdal. Thank you for sharing. He’s balanced the financial reporting with an excellent sportswriting flow too. I like how he’s portrayed Collins too and makes his enthusiasm and disbelief seem like he’s just like one of us fans.
      Thanks for the morning read!

Looking forward to playing some meaningless games in September. Ironic, isn’t it?
