That’s what I feel like doing, celebrating! “Captain America” David Wright put the finishing touches on an afternoon of momentous proportions by mashing a three-run shot in the top of the ninth. The Mets had been picked by various sources throughout Spring Training as the second or third-best team in the National League East. Today, they clinched that division title by crushing the Cincinnati Reds 10-3, despite being outhit 13-10. Lucas Duda started the scoring in the first by launching a grand slam, and the Mets didn’t put up a zero until the fourth inning.

Matt Harvey was stellar over a surprising 6.2 innings. May I ask, if we are supposed to be limiting his innings, then why was he out so long? Perhaps the management has decided that the number of pitches thrown are more important than innings pitched. He struck out six batters, while walking none. During this series, the Mets starters have not walked a batter, and the entire pitching staff had 32 strikeouts to a mere 3 walks. That’s impressive.

The Mets have clinched a National League East title for the first time in nine years, and they appear to be regaining their swagger at the most vital moment of the year. With the St. Louis Cardinals suffering multiple critical injuries in the past week, and none of the other NL postseason teams seeming invincible, this really could be a magical season for the New York Mets.

Am I dreaming? Let’s go Mets!!!

Back-to-back blowout wins! 19-3 in their last 22 road games. Plenty of time to get everyone rest and set the pitching rotation.

    Life is good.

I am as happy as everyone here, but just as happy to see humility from an often maligned competitor, Bryce Harper:

“I think that’s just the way it was this year,” Harper told reporters in D.C. “The Mets had everything going for them. They did a lot of things. That deadline came around and they got [Yoenis] Cespedes, [Tyler] Clippard and they built their team. They did a great job this year and they’re doing it. Coming from the East, I hope they win it all … because they’re from the East and you want that out of your division. I hope they win it all and good luck to them.”

This is for real. Wow. Holy crap. I forgot how good this feels. LGM!!!!!

Good job Sandy for making the moves after July 24th that put the Mets in a position to win. Nice job Terry for properly using these new players. The players took on the challenge by transforming the offense from near last to #1. That was truly a remarkable accomplishment. It is so exciting to see these dominant young starting pitchers with Familia closing. Most of all, it was great to see a class act, David Wright, return to the spotlight and captain his team to the Division Title. Division Title ,now that has a nice ring to it!
Thanks Brian for founding an excellant site and providing the venue for the comraderie of the Game Chatters.

Congrats to the 2015 NY Mets! Well done boys. My MVPs for this team are –
    1. Curtis Granderson
    2. Jeurys Familia

These two players have been the most consistent in my opinion. Of course Murph and deGrom are runners up but when it comes to consistency, no one has been better than Grandy and Familia. Now its on to LA and lets keep going!!

CarGo with a walk off bomb. Rox have beaten the Dodgers the first two games of the series so far…
Mets are the second seed by a half game. Atta boy Carlos. You killed the Nats, now kill the Dodgers. Doesn’t it feel like he’s a Met in another uniform?

One more, the doosy! Matt Harvey asked to be allowed to throw 100 pitches to get ready for the playoffs! Gary said it during the telecast. How bout that?

Wow! It was an incredible experience to be there. After about 20 minutes the team came out to celebrate with the fans. It was awesome. Brian, I can send you some pix and video if you want.

    Let’s Go Mets!

    HI All,

I just read through the chatter. I was on my phone, and focusing on the game, so it was hard to chime in much. I just got home from the drive, so its been a huge day! So here some answers to things I saw in the chatter.

    • Yes, I did go to the game!
    • Yes, I did bring a sign…the same one I made for the Atlanta series.
    • There were absolutely tons of Mets fans all along the 3B field level.
    • Reds fans and stadium staff were all awesome hosts. They knew something special was happening, and never said a bad word to any of us, unlike Atlanta.
    • Duda’s HR was electric, and the left field side of the stadium exploded.
    • By the 7th, some Reds fans were tired of the mauling and being out shouted began to trickle out…those seats were immediately reoccupied by Mets fans moving closer, myself included.
    • I was flabbergasted that Harvey went out in the 7th. We now know he set a 100 pitch goal, and was embarrassed by the Yankee game.
    • As a crowd, we were pretty loud most of the game, although now that Im watching the replay at 1 am, its hard to hear us. On my 4 hr ride home, I listened to the WOR replay of the game, and those microphones picked up much more of the Mets fans.
    • By the 8th inning, I was about 10 rows back and another section closer to the dugout. Everyone was taking pics and video. Chanting, high fiving, and overall enjoying the merriment.
    • By the top 9th I was closer in yet, and when Wright hit his HR is was utter insanity because all the Mets fans had tightened up considerably with the vacated seats.
    • A lot of people were taking pix and making video of Familia and the end. It was awesome. Mets fans of all diversity imaginable, from all over, were having a genuine family bonding moment.
    • After the game a fair number of people left, but Id say 500-1000 fans kept hoping he players would return to the field, and we were rewarded! There were chants for every player, ex-favorite player, and other Met oddities. We did the Ga-ry Co-hen clap-clap clap-clap-clap, and Keith Her-nan-dez clap-clap clap-clap-clap and of course they waved from the booth down to us.
    • After about an hour, it was clear the team and families needed to start the real partying, and so we all started to leave, but it was cool because the team and families were so moved by the support, they kept taking pics and video of the fans
    • I have a fair number of pics and video clips of most of this.

      🙂

Hope we can get some of those moments up so we can enjoy them as well. Great job reporting Chris, get ready for Game 1 in Queens!

        A very happy recap, Chris F. 🙂
