The Mets finished their season with 90 wins, as a solo homer by Curtis Granderson lifted them to a 1-0 win over the Nationals Sunday in New York.

  • Granderson led off the game with a single, ensuring that the Mets wouldn’t suffer being no-hit in back-to-back games. He also added a double and finished with three of the five hits for New York.
  • Jacob deGrom started for the Mets but was working on an 80-pitch limit. Strikeout and walks drove up his pitch count and he left after four hitless innings that included seven whiffs.
  • Bartolo Colon and Logan Verrett continued the no-hitter into the seventh, until Clint Robinson broke through for the Nationals’ first hit against Jon Niese.
  • Addison Reed got the final out in the seventh inning and Tyler Clippard and Jeurys Familia shut the door. Granderson’s late homer made a winner out of Clippard and Familia picked up his 43rd save of the year, tying Armando Benitez for the single-season record.
  • Mets pitchers fanned 43 Nationals batters in the three-game set.

A real nice happy ending to a fun season. The Mets August to September run highlighted by the stellar clutch hitting display put on by Yoenis Cespedis was some of the most exciting Mets baseball I’ve seen since 1962. He is the Mets 2015 MVP. He didn’t do it alone. It takes 25 guys. Sandy Alderson deserves a lot of credit for the timely trade deadline moves that got the job done. I am one happy Mets fan tonight! Now like DW said “Lets go beat LA!” Lets Go Mets!

So glad to finish on a high note.

Prior to the July 24th make over, there was one player that was trying to “will” victories by taking the extra base or hitting the clutch home run. He earned my respect this season and it was only fitting he “willed” yet one more victory by hitting that home run in the 8th inning. A tip of the hat to a fine team effort but a special nod to Curtis Granderson who was there when others weren’t available.

Fantastic end to the season. I was at the game and was glad to see Terry and the players come out and salute the fans afterwards. The players were jumping around, smiling and messing with each other after the game. Great sight.

Here’s to a successful playoff run and the hope that I can get to a game or two!

Baseball isn’t driven by mood swings to the extent that football is, but one can see the effects of a change of team mood. It was my impression that this team lost something when Cespedes took that ball off his hand; even though the injury turned out to be slight, the team couldn’t simply revert back to that emotional high.

Now the team won’t play again until Friday, which is probably the best thing for them; being allowed time to regroup. Let’s go Mets!

Hope the Bats come back…the Offense was in snooze mode.
The Nationals and Phillies series were so anticlimatic, that TC could not inspire the team to go for the Home Field ADV.
Too bad, because the Dodgers were the only possibility for it. The Cards, Cubs, Pirates, all have better records.
Whoever of those wins there side of the NLDS will be at home if the Mets beat LA. Splitting in LA is the key. Mets need Uribe. He is clutch and always seems to find a way to beat LA!
If Mets can steal one in LA, they can win at home and let their fans celebrate an even better accomplishment than the NL East.

      Not true.

If the Cubs or Pirates beat the Cards, Mets are still the “higher” seed and would get home field in the LCS.

Met’s magic. Totally unexpected even with the fast start. Especially when the Nats over took the Mets. The the added insurance. Cepesdes took over along with the re-enforcements and the team suddenly began scoring and all the guys were on board.
Great to see Lucas tee of going into the playoffs. Hopefully he will continue to do his thing with runners on base.
I’ve been a fan since 62. Good times and bad, but this may be the year. The Dodgers have great pitching, but the Mets do also. We shall see???
    Let’s Go Mets!
