The Mets moved to within one win of the World Series as they went into Wrigley Field and beat the Cubs, 5-2, Tuesday night.

Jacob deGrom didn’t appear to have his best stuff/control yet he still limited the Cubs to two runs over seven innings, with both coming via solo homers. While his control seemed shaky, deGrom issued just one walk and fanned seven. He appeared to be in complete control when they took him out.

It wouldn’t be a playoff update without a Daniel Murphy note. Yes, he hit another homer, becoming the franchise leader with six playoff homers.

Both David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes had three-hit games. Wright scored two runs while Cespedes scored once and drove in two others.

The Mets out-hit the Cubs, 11-5.

Jeurys Familia came on in the ninth and it started to rain. While we had bad flashbacks to the San Diego game, the umpires did not call for the tarp this time and Familia set down the side in order.

Mets go for the sweep Wednesday night.

Cubs defense was spectacularly bad last night. Brutal, brutal. Only charged with one error, but made 5-6 misplays. Meanwhile, Mets on bases were once again very sharp, aggressive, on the ball.

From a team perspective, only one team showed up last night.

Boy, was that true, and why? Okay, Schwarber is just a brutal outfielder, but where was the concentration from so many of the other players?

I had trouble believing what I was watching. And it wasn’t even the Dodgers!

Win NLCS. Win WS. Sign Cespedes. Sign Murphy. Win again in 2016.

Gut Reaction: Sweet, let’s close it out tonight and change the last “T” to “P” as in sweep.
When Murphy hit into that DP with the score tied, I thought it was crucial for JdG to keep the Cubs off the board the next inning or the series momentum could change. JdG did the job like a true ace should.
Schwarber in left reminds me of past Met follies of Hundley, Duda and Murphy. He can’t field and can’t throw. Maybe he should grow some Ivy on his glove. It is easy to appreciate a guy who hits a homerun every game but I also appreciate the hard work that Murphy put in to be a representable fielder. I hope some AL team gives him a truckload of money.
Cespedes steal of third only shows how valuable a 5 tool player athlete is to a team.
Duda figured out a way to contribute last night. Familia is Gold.
    Let’s Go Mets !

Is there an available estimate to the additional present year value that this run provides to the Mets?….and a forecast of next year valuation?

My guess is a boost of at least 3000-5000 per game for 81 games, next year—maybe more…and that’s just tickets—concessiions?…parking???…merchandise???… SNY Revenues for Ads, etc.

I looked up average ticket prices…stunned to find that the Mets are at $74-100 per game…????? ReallY!!!???

OK…I’m using $50…. That’s $12,000,000 in Revenue!!! If the averages I read are correct, we’re dealing with 15-20 million added revenue with 3000 boost in per game attendance…Amazing!!! At 5000 boost, it’s easily 20-30 Million Dollars!!!

Plus Licensing, Parking, Concessions, ….SNY Revenue…. hey—and the Ownership can now go to games and wave at their customers (for the first time in 10 years!!!!!).

    Wow!!!!

I looked at a few data points for Citi field revenue (which includes ticket, concessions, and parking, and anything else related to Citi field)

In 2009, the ballpark made 180.4 million and drew an average of 38.9k fans.
In 2013, the ballpark made 119.2 milion and drew an average of 26.7k fans.
In 2014, the ballpark made 117 million and drew an average of 26.8k fans.

That does put the average revenue per fan at about $55.

Total revenue for the Mets in 2014 was 263 million, which means about 150 million came from other sources, which was up from 120 million in 2014 and 90 million in 2009.

2015 attendance was already up 5k from 2014, which means that they probably got around 22.5 million extra this year. We’ll find out exactly sometime during April next year exactly how close to reality that actually was.
