Here’s what happened on this day in New York Mets history:

1966: New York Mets selected Duffy Dyer in seventh round of free agent draft.

2010: Jonathon Niese pitched seven innings, allowing one run and striking out eight to tie his major league career high, the New York Mets beat the Washington Nationals 5-3. Alex Cora delivered a two-run triple and had three RBI. David Wright went 3-for-5 in the Mets win.

2010:  The New York Mets sign former New York Yankee and Washington National reliever Brian Bruney to a minor league contract. Bruney blasted K-Rod  one year earlier during the Subway Series. One day after Luis Castillo dropped a pop up allowing the Yankees to win the game Bruney said: “Unbelievable. I’ve never seen anything like that. I have, but in high school. It couldn’t happen to a better guy on the mound, either. He’s got a tired act … I just don’t like watching the guy pitch. I think it’s embarrassing.”
