ConfortoDespite an off day for the pitching staff, the Mets held on to defeat the Giants 6-5 for their eighth consecutive win.

Jacob deGrom did not have his best stuff, walking four batters and giving up three unearned runs courtesy of an errant throw by third baseman Wilmer Flores. The Mets maintained a healthy lead through the middle innings thanks to a 2-RBI double and solo homer from Michael Conforto and a solo shot from Wilmer Flores, his first of the year. Neil Walker also contributed, driving in two runs with a single. But the Mets middle relief was shaky today with Addison Reed and Hansel Robles both struggling to keep the Giants off the bases. Jerry Blevins got a key groundout to end a Giants rally in the 8th and Jeurys Familia shut it down in the ninth for the win.

The surging Mets now sit just a half game behind the first place Nationals and wrap up the home series with the Giants tomorrow with a pitching matchup not to be missed – Noah Syndergaard vs. Madison Bumgarner. Let’s go Mets!

Love where we are. Love what the team is doing.

Dump Flores, he is bad bad bad

The same Flores who had 16 home runs and became a fan favorite last year?

But you can’t make decisions based upon who’s a fan favorite. Ask the Philllies how that worked out holding onto Howard, Rollins and Utley well passed the time they should have cut ties with them.

The very same Flores. He is terrible on the left side. We saw again and again at SS he can do OK catching a ball inside the limited range he has, but cannot throw accurately. From 3B its even worse, to muster the velo needed to cross the diamond, he needs to shuffle, shuffle, pump, pump to make it, but he has even less accuracy…as we saw. That will lose several games, regardless of the occasional HR.

Flores had a Jekyl and Hyde day. His throwing was atrocious but he did hit a homerun. Flores role on this team is to spell Wright for around 26 games. He also is the backup second baseman and first baseman but that role has been diminished furthur because, lo and behold, Walker and Duda have been hitting LHP. He also backs up Cabrera who is also having a solid year. Flores value is that he has the power to tie a game as a pinch hitter on one swing. He was almost average last year as a starter and with a little fan patience he can be a small asset on this team. I agree that he does need to start playing better.
Conforto is something special. Granderson comes up with a catch and once again shows he is a real “gamer”.
Lets throw the Bum (garner) out and get us a sweep!

I have tickets to today’s game. To quote Reggie Jackson, “This is a game blind people would pay to hear.”

    Rain rain, go away…
