Nothing no be ashamed about. We got shut out by the best pitcher in baseball. The way Clayton Kershaw was pitching, the ’27 Yankees couldn’t have scored. With pinpoint control, a mid-90s fastball with movement, a big looping curve and a herky jerky windup that throws off everyone’s timing, Kershaw is virtually impossible to hit when he’s on. He’s already won three Cy Young Awards and it appears he’s now hitting his prime. How lucky for the rest of us.
Bartolo Colon had one of those outings that he was overdue for where it looks like he’s throwing batting practice. Colon got beat up for five runs in the first two innings, but the grizzled veteran battled through to eat up three more innings so we wouldn’t have to completely burn out the pen in this lost game. The Mets mustered just three hits and never got a runner past second base. They struck out 13 times against this era’s Sandy Koufax.
So, if you’re keeping track the Mets now sit in a tie with the Nationals atop the NL East. Tomorrow it’s off to Colorado for a series with the Rockies before coming home for our fist big match up of the season against the Nationals.
This was definitely the Clayton Kershaw hour, but Asdrubal Cabrera looks like a gamer. Underrated in the field and scrappy at the plate.
Just don’t understand what Terry’s bromance is with Eric Campbell. Average in the field at best wherever he plays and a subpar hitter, just don’t get it. Better off playing Duda in my opinion:
Campbell has 23 ABs this season.
As for Duda, TC was doing him a favor. Same with Conforto.
Now they are fresh, rested, and ready for CO. Hopefully they both get plenty of starts with LHP in the future. But missing Kershaw is a nice break.
