The Mets have won 16 of their last 21 games and their schedule the remainder of the season has very few playoff caliber teams. Are you confident about the team making the playoffs as a Wild Card or are you a resident of Panic City, anticipating a collapse?

I think they will make the wild card, but not go past the division. Skeptical about the starting pitching

Brian, you asked me this question about a month ago in the Chatter and my answer has not changed; the Mets are a lock! The schedule was the deciding factor and they had the players to make it happen. I admit I was expecting a Matz/deGrom instead of a Lugo/Gssellman/Montero rotation but hey, the game is played on the field. Now ask me a tough one, how many games it will take for the Mets to win the World Series! 🙂 six

A bit high, but not wildly so. Im sort of at 50%, which has come a long way. While we have favorable schedule, this team has a tendency to not play well against poor teams. Still, the Cards are a troubled team, possibly moreso than the Mets. As it seems to me, the Giants have the greatest potential to get WC1, and the Mets and Cards are about equal.

Another interesting question to ask is what do we root for this weekend in the pivotal Cards-Giants series.

Do we want them to split so we have a chance to distance both for the 1st wild card, or do we hope for one team to sweep another to guarantee one of the wild card spots?

I think you want a team to sweep, because even thought the Mets may get the second wild card slot, they will at least one.

Now that Montero is not gonna pitch again……

I am very bullish. The schedule really does favor the Mets at this point.

The expanded playoff format makes it harder and harder for the best team to win — and that’s a good thing for the Mets, because they are not close to top-quality. But good enough to beat anybody in the NL in a short series? I think so, if Jake is healthy. And if Matz is healthy, then they really have a shot.

I don’t love the play-in format. Anything can happen in one game. I bet that the Cubs are a little worried about the Mets, though they would deny it. Are the Cubs better? Yes, much. But in a short series, it’s not crazy to hope.

Clear your schedule for October 5th.

Schedule works in our favor. Need to get deGrom and Matz back ASAP. In a one game playoff on the road against Bumgarner I don’t love our chances. Hope we can grab wc1
