Here’s what happened on this day in New York Mets history:

1963: New York Mets released Jimmy Piersall.

1975: New York Mets released Cleon Jones.

1990: New York Mets traded Mike Marshall to the Boston Red Sox for Greg Hansell, Paul Williams and Ed Perozo.

2001: New York Mets traded Turk Wendell and Dennis Cook to the Philadelphia Phillies for Bruce Chen and Adam Walker.

2002: New York Mets signed free agent Carlos Gomez.

2010: With manager Jerry Manuel suspended for arguing with an umpire a week earlier, and outfielder Jason Bay out with a mild concussion, the Mets make good for their absence, hitting a pair of long home runs (Jeff Francoeur and Jose Reyes) in a 8-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
