Here’s what happened on this day in New York Mets history:

1963: New York Mets traded Jacke Davis to the St. Louis Cardinals for Duke Carmel.

1987: Howard Johnson hit a long two-run tenth inning home run to lead the Mets to a 6-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. It was one of four hits HoJo had in the game. After the game Cardinals manager Whitey Herzog alleged Johnson had a corked bat saying, “He hit that like Babe Ruth. He’s not that strong.”

1996: New York Mets traded Jeff Kent and José Vizcaino to the Cleveland Indians for Carlos Baerga and Alvaro Espinoza.

2003: New York Mets traded Rey Sanchez to the Seattle Mariners for Kenny Kelly.
