Ever mindful of his audience and surroundings, Jagger made sure to acknowledge the Mets during the first night of the Stones’ six-show stand. “We’re sorry the Mets didn’t make it to the World Series,” he told the audience from the stage, which had been built across the far reaches of the Shea outfield. “Too bad—but we’re going to have the World Series of Love!”

I was at one of ’em.

I saw them on this tour but not at Shea. One of my favorite concerts that I’ve been to

Ever seen the Grateful Dead? Hot Tuna? New Riders of Purple Sage, Jefferson Airplane, Neil Young?

I saw the Dead and I’ve seen Neil Young multiple times.

Any favorite shows? Year and band? Cornell 1977 is nice.
Myself really enjoyed Kingfish and the Keith and Donna Band, way back in 1976. Also Garcia, Kahn, Keith and Donna, and Vitt was nice show. And the JGB with Bo and Elephant’s Memory on the USS Duchess was quite an experience. Al mid 1970’s.

Some that stand out – I saw the Kinks in a tiny club in Boston that might have held 500 people in it in the early 90s. I saw Springsteen in early January for the Born in the USA tour and he did so many encores that he finally came out and played Santa Claus is Coming to Town because even he was beat. Saw Pink Floyd in Chapel Hill in ’87 and got stopped by the cops and was thinking I was probably the only person they could have stopped that wasn’t carrying anything illegal. I wasn’t allowed to see Wings Over America but finally got to see McCartney in 1990 and was floored when he did a medley of Lennon songs. Saw Page and Plant on their first reunion tour and was bowled over when they did a cover of Break on Thru. Rod Stewart was pretty forgettable when I saw him in the 80s but the women in the crowd more than made up for it. Saw Phish open up for Santana at an outdoor venue in the early 90s. The weather held the crowd down but Santana might have been the best show just for the music. He was incredible. Saw the Dead in Vegas right before Jerry died. Sade’s voice was absolutely beautiful when I saw her in 2001. A friend dragged me to see Adrian Belew in the 1980s and even though I didn’t know anything he played I was glad I went because he was so good. Bowie, The Who, Dylan, Elvis Costello – man, some good memories.

Just picked up from library earlier today: Neil Young: The Definitive History by Mike Evans, 2012. Should be a good read!
Good to see Noah so strong, and do hope Bruce has an all star year for the NY Mets.

Jerry and Merl, Reconstruction, at the Temple Beautiful, San Francisco, summer 1979.
And Pink Floyd opened my concert experiences, at Roosevelt Stadium, summer 1975. Opened with HAVE A CIGAR, played the entire Wish You Were Here album, followed by the entire Dark Side of the Moon album, encore was ECHOES from Meddle album. WOW!
Born and raised in the NYC suburbs, offered so many concert opportunities.
Did spend 20 years in Great Britain & saw some good musicians: John Martyn, Pentangle, Bert Jansch.
