Gut Reaction: Nationals 4, Mets 3 (11 INN) 4/21/17

Matt Harvey was force into action due to Jacob deGrom being pushed back because of neck stiffness.  Harvey hit the second batter of the game in the head, who luckily was ok.  Bryce Harper was the next batter and proceeded to give the Nationals the lead with a long 2 run homer to right center.

In the bottom of the first, Michael Conforto answered back with a solo shot to the opposite field.  Curtis Granderson tied the game with a two out single in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

Jose Lobaton then hit a solo homer in the top of the fifth inning to put the Nationals up 3-2.  Harvey then settled down to get through 6.

Granderson then struck again in the bottom of the sixth with a solo shot to tie the game up yet again.

The game then went to extra innings, where Jeurys Familia gave up a bases loaded walk to give the Nationals the lead.  Yet another tough loss for the Mets.

Key point for me in the game was the bottom of the ninth. That was when the Mets needed something to happen. Rene Rivera leads off with a walk and gets pinch run for with Gsellman; TJ Rivera lays down a sac bunt. Cabrera pinch hitting, walks. Conforto and Lagares due up against Joe Blanton:

Conforto swings at first pitch and softly grounds to Murphy, who didn’t tag the pinch runner Plawecki going right by him, but just gets a sure out at first. Runners on second and third, two outs.

Lagares has a nice at bat, but flies out to end the inning. Mets needed one of those two guys to come through.

Wasting the Wheeler double hurt too.

I know. Babe Wheeler pinch hit for Harvey? Isn’t he hitting a career .100? Had I seen it in real time, I’d gag. But I’m at work, but I just happen to look up and Wheeler is standing on second. How did he get there, who’s he pinch running for? LOL

Also, I came back to point out, the 51’s third baseman last night was Rosario. Hmmm……

When is the Super Two cut-off. Sometime around 5/15 or so? Tread water till then and call up Rosario.

    Montero : 10 walks in 6.2 IP
Familia: 4 walks in 1.2 IP.

Did montero commit identity theft and is now impersonating familia?
