“Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes it rains.” Crash Davis was a wise man. But while, a manmade rain out helped the Durham Bulls catch a break, this Mother Nature variety might not be as good for the Mets as it seems.
On the surface, an extra day off gives Yoenis Cespedes, Travis d’Arnaud and the rest of the walking wounded another day to heal. However, the scheduling change means that a) the Mets will now have to face nemesis Julio Teheran twice in the next week and b) neither Noah Syndergaard or Matt Harvey will get to face the Nationals in the upcoming weekend road series.
The Mets should resume play Wednesday night at Citi Field with Syndergaard squaring off against Teheran in a rematch of opening day. Then on a Thursday day game when it’s expected to be sunny and 75 degrees, Harvey will match up against our old friend Bartolo Colon. The rotation has not been announced yet for the weekend series in Washington, but for now, it appears Robert Gsellman, who was slated to pitch tonight, will be skipped in the rotation. No word yet if he’ll be pushed back a few days or be available out of the bullpen if needed.
I’m calling the rain out a win.
Scratch that. Mets just announced Gselman will pitch tonight after all. So we have Harvey/deGrom/Wheeler for the Nats this weekend.
