Well, that was refreshing!

  • Matt Harvey pitched six strong innings and his first hit of the season jump-started a three-run inning as the Mets ended their Sunday slide with a 7-2 win. They had lost games on their last six Sundays.
  • Harvey had good, not great, stuff and his command was spotty at best. But he made big pitches when he had to and it was an encouraging outing all around. The only blemish was a solo homer in the second inning.
  • The Mets’ offense came up big again, as Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson each had three hits as the Mets pounded out 14 hits on the night. Bruce and Asdrubal Cabrera each had two RBIs. Lucas Duda continued his surge with a laser beam homer in the seventh inning.
  • Paul Sewald gave up a run in two innings of work and Neil Ramirez put two runners on base but actually pitched a scoreless ninth, to the shock of everyone.

For Msrs. Harvey and Collins, from Chuck Noll:

A series win. The Mets three best pitchers all pitched well in the series. That was an encouraging sign. The offense has been excellent and the redundancy of Duda and Bruce is just as I pictured it. Sewald ate up two innings and threw strikes. Ramirez in one inning threw 28 pitches and threw balls but at least saved Blevins (?) from entering the game. The Mets need some payback against the Brewers. A 5-2 home stand would be nice. Lets Go Mets!
