-The Mets were once again hurt by a weak pitching performance. The culprit this game was Tyler Pill, who allowed five earned runs over six innings. In the series with the Dodgers, the Mets have so far been outscored 30-8.
-The long ball has come to harm the Mets. After two Yasmani Grandal shots and a controversial Yasiel Puig blast, the total number of Dodger home runs in the series rose to 12.
-Puig’s home run in the bottom of the fourth became controversial when he decided to pose at home plate and proceed to Cadillac it around the bases. Wilmer Flores took exception to this, and had some words for Puig, who exchanged words back as he was trotting around first.
-Both runs were brought in by Curtis Granderson, including one via the solo home run. Granderson was 3-5 on the night, and has been very hot as of late. Flores, Yoenis Cespedes, Travis d’Arnaud and Gavin Cecchini also contributed hits to the Mets’ cause.
I have not stuck around long to watch any of the LA games.
What have you guys seen with Cecchini?
My son, 24, said that his throwing motion was strange and that his arm looked weak. Not sure how reliable that is, but it certainly sounds believable.
Only one play stands out in my mind and he seemed to have a more overhand throw than most, almost something like how Roman Gabriel threw a football, if I can exaggerate to make a point.
Not sure if this was a one-time thing or not. And it’s possible I might just be shell shocked from all of the homers and just imagined it. But my thought was that this couldn’t possibly be how he threw from SS.
definitely interesting arm slot…right over the top. It didnt look much like he could handle the left side.
The starting pitching has been so inconsistent this year. The next three games will be started by their three best pitchers ; Matz, Lugo and JDG so hopefully the games will be competitive. If the three pitch to expectations and stay healthy it will be something to build on. If they can’t then a long hard look needs to be taken to improve the pitching for 2018. At this point, and going forward, Harvey, Wheeler, Gsellman and Pill can’t be depended upon.
Puig is a hotdog but the Mets should be putting their attention into winning games and ignoring him. They should never let him know that he got under their skin.
The starting pitching hasn’t even been inconsistent, it has been atrocious. We are on pace for our worst team ERA since 1962. No team can hit enough to make up for this pitching, and so we lose a lot.
This week I’ve finally made it through all the stages of grief. This team is going nowhere. Alderson better sell any expiring contract that he can, but I doubt he will.
Hopefully he proves me wrong.

Granny is one of the few Mets with a pulse. The first one to go should be Lucas Duda; we don’t need the needless homers. Put Bruce at first and play Granny. See what happens for a few weeks, then reshuffle. This is a golden opportunity to see how many of your players are comfortable losing. Get rid of all of them! Gsellman is one of those.
