The Mets offense is starting to make Citi Field seem like the home of their opponents, the Colorado Rockies’ Coors Field. The Mets put up an astounding 9 runs tonight against the Rockies. The charge was lead by Jay Bruce, who delivered a three-run home run in the first inning. The Mets scored 8 of their first 9 runs within the first three innings. Every starting position player had a hit tonight, highlighted by home runs by Jose Reyes and starting pitcher Seth Lugo. Reyes continued his hot hitting of late with two hits including the home run, and even adding a stolen base.

Lugo delivered a strong performance on the mound for the Mets. In his 6.2 innings, he allowed three earned runs, while striking out five. Lugo also surrendered two walks in his winning effort. My Git Reaction is that this strong start will be the first in a string of strong starts from Lugo. The bullpen also was strong tonight, allowing no runs and striking out six in their 2.1 innings of work. It was a combined effort to tonight’s 9-3 win. If there was a negative to this game, it was Yoenis Cespedes leaving the game in the top of the sixth after sliding awkwardly in the outfield.

The Mets look to continue their strong offense and sweep the Rockies tomorrow at 1:10, when Steven Matz takes the mound.

So, in an 8-3 game, Bozo the Manager doesn’t let Sewald face lefties with no one on and one out in the eighth? It’s this crap that got the bullpen burned out to begin with, not necessarily the short outings. My disdain for Collins has no soothing.

Yes, we need our three most reliable arms with a 5 run lead but yet we’all keep bringing in Salas in tie games.

Could I add on to that. Why doesn’t the manager take Yoenis Cespedes out of the game to rest his weary legs when the game’s results are already in the book. Last night’s injury was in the 6th inning so maybe that is a little early for a shower but playing 9 innings on a blow out?

Cespedes legs are compromised. There’s no need to squeeze every drop of water from the sponge.
