An ugly streak has come to an end for the New York Mets on Sunday. They ended a streak of six straight Sunday losses with their 6-2 win over the Phillies. The winning effort was lead by a strong starting effort by Chris Flexen and a good day at the plate for Curtis Granderson. On the mound, Flexen went five innings and struck out five. It was surprising that Flexen allowed the number of runs that he did, considering he surrendered four walks in his outing. He stayed in long enough to earn his second major league win, and he is slowly starting to work his ERA down.

On the offensive side of the game, the Mets had a pleasant outing. Certainly no one had a better day than Granderson, who went 3-5 and fell a triple short of the cycle. His highlight was a two-run shot that he belted in the fifth inning. Conforto hit a two-run shot of his own in the first. His last five hits have all been home runs. Jose Reyes had two hits, including a double. Asdrubal Cabrera, Dom Smith, Travis d’Arnaud and Amed Rosario each also contributed a hit to the cause. The Mets will want to keep the offense hot if they want to have success against the Yankees in the Subway Series.

The bullpen had yet another strong outing. The quartet of Chasen Bradford, Jerry Blevins, Paul Sewald, and A.J Ramos combined for one hit and zero runs allowed. My Gut Reaction is that although in the beginning of the season it was seen as a week point on the team, the Mets bullpen has become stronger, and will be one of their stronger units in 2018. The Subway Series kicks of tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium, where Rafael Montero will look to tackle Aaron Judge and the Yankees at 7:08.

I’m impressed by what I see briefly of Smith—quick bat…very good balance as a hitter.

Rosario is impressive as well…especially defensively. I am concerned about his approach offensively—very early to tell

Since the All Star break, the Met bullpen has been been very solid. Blevins (1.00), Robles (2.03), Bradford (2.70), Goeddel (2.90) and Sewald (3.14) have had ERA’s below the National League average of 4.14. The departed Edgin (1.93) and Reed (2.84) also contributed positively to the bullpen turn around. The Mets hung on to Salas and Ramirez too long. Smoker over Edgin is a mystery. A nice turn around, but bullpens (especially second tier relievers) are fickle so to think that they are the 2018 solution is premature.
After a good series, I would like to see Rosario lead off.
Even though it was Sunday, it was an expected win against the worst team in baseball.

I’d like to see him bat 7th…

Poor Gump… 2-4 with a RBI and everyone gets a hug but him.

I agree with Texas. Where’s the love for Wilmer? Two hits (2 for 5 actually) and an rbi doesn’t cut it where singles with no rbis gets mentioned?
