The Yankees jumped on top early and held on through a shaky ninth inning, as they completed a four-game sweep of the 2017 Subway Series with a 7-5 win Thursday night in Citi Field.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before but Steven Matz had another bad outing. He gave up three runs in the first inning and was responsible for all seven that the Yankees scored. At this point it’s hard to justify keep running him out as a starter. Matt Harvey can’t come back soon enough.

Curtis Granderson delivered a grand slam for the Mets in the ninth inning. But Dellin Betances came out of the pen to retire the next three batters to lock down the game.

Travis d’Arnaud and Matt Reynolds had two hits apiece for the Mets. d’Arnaud also reached base on an error by Aaron Judge and came round to score the Mets’ first run.

The Mets used three relievers for 5.2 scoreless IP. Chasen Bradford hurled 2.2 IP and Hansel Robles added two scoreless frames.

This game was the proverbial “not as close as the score made it seem”. Even at 7-5, no one on with a two run deficit against Betances is a chore. At this point, it’s worth noting who is playing hard and who isn’t. That’s what losing shows: who has heart and who doesn’t.

Too, I read that after Rosario’s homerun the other night, Cabrera who prides himself on taking off the hitter’s helmet, instead looked down and walked away when Rosario approached the dugout.

Steven Matz in his first five starts had a 2.12 ERA and he threw seven innings in four of them and six in the other. He has talent. He has not pitched in the sixth inning since and three of those starts he didn’t make it to the fourth inning. He would be a candidate for the bullpen in order to work on things if the pitching staff was intact and healthy. It is not and another reason the Mets should look for a #3 starter or better this winter.
Granderson is far from washed up. He would be a good choice as a 4th OF/DH on many AL teams in 2018. He is a good clubhouse presence, good team mate and plays 100% all the time. I am so surprised that he hasn’t been traded yet.

Matz: you can argue that he has talent, based on past results….. but you’re not seeing anything that “Wows!” you. Location?—Blech!… 2ndary Pitches–Blech!…Movement?–Blech!!!

I don;t know if he’s Pitching around pain….Pitching to stay away from Pain….

      I dunno – I like Matz’ curve.

Earlier, Keith Hernandez said he thought it was a velocity problem with Matz. I think it’s a command issue. It just seems like there are too many pitches in the heart of the plate.

Walks up Moderately…Strikeouts down by 2+/9innings…… I’m searching for SwStr%…can’t find it.

He’s not locating in Pitcher’s Counts…and the “center plate” is killing him in hitter counts.

The Curveball has been better…but I don’t see Out Pitches.

It’s shocking. A 94 mph young lefty who has been successful when healthy is now just a body on the mound. I’m in favor of rolling him out, if healthy—if it’s there, he can find it.

Lack of put away pitches have killed the staff. The number of foul balls staggers me. then, they just leave junk over the plate middle middle. ka-pooooowwwww
