In a battle between former Mets ace and current Mets ace, the current won the match. Jacob deGrom pitched a marvelous seven innings en route to a 7-3 Mets win over the Braves. deGrom allowed one run over that time, allowing five hits and two walks to go with seven strikeouts. This was deGrom’s fifteenth win of the season, and he was in command the whole time. He snapped a recent skid, and pitched himself to his 50th career victory.

For the bats of the Mets, it was also a good night. Five Mets players had doubles on the evening, Nori Aoki even notching two. Asdrubal Cabrera, Brandon Nimmo, Dom Smith, and Gavin Cecchini each had a double. Cecchini had a great night at the plate, going 3-4. Former Met R.A Dickey lasted five innings against his former team, and was hit hard his entire tenure in the game. The only Mets starter to not have a hit in the game was shortstop Amed Rosario. My Gut Reaction is that the Mets offense will be strong through the rest of the season, as players start to get used to hitting in new spots in the lineup.

Out of the bullpen, Jeruys Familia pitched a scoreless frame. He allowed a hit, but no damage came from it. A.J Ramos struggled a little bit in his inning of work, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk. He got the job done though, as he finished the game for the Mets. This win snapped a four game losing streak, and an eight game road losing streak. Tomorrow, Robert Gsellman will take the hill at 1:30 and face the Braves in the rubber game of the series.

    My gut feeling for tomorrow:

    Sunday + Gsellman = Loss

And I just saw that Teheran is pitching for the Braves? Can anyone recommend a reputable betting website. If there was an opportunity to double the retirement fund, LOL…

Jake pitched a great game and is having a very good season. Freeman said that he pitched like the “old” deGrom with more velocity unlike earlier this season. It has taken JdG a year since his surgery to get back to this level. The Mets should realize that Matz, with similar surgery, should also take a year to get back to the level he had prior to his surgery. Harvey and Wheeler, with their bloated ERA’s, should not be expected be be at full throttle when the season begins. Syndergaard hasn’t pitched since April. It is an extremely risky rotation plan to rely on for 2018.

I don’t agree that it’s taken Jake a year to get back. When he faced the Braves on May 3, he averaged 96.3 with his fastball and had a high of 98.8 for the game. And while that wasn’t a particularly good day for deGrom, he had a 3.23 ERA after his first 10 starts, better than his overall mark now after 30 starts.
