In the bottom of the fifth inning, while Steve Gelbs was finishing up an interview with Wilmer Flores, Luis Guillorme homered to center field off MLB veteran Bud Norris.

Who says he has no power?

    Awesome!
I have seen Guillorme a few times in 2015 and even back then he could field like a major league shortstop. Having seen him “live”, it was hard to imagine him hitting major league pitching even though he had a .391 OBP in 2015. It just seem like he didn’t hit the ball far enough, zero extra base power.
If he has a strong AAA season with a .360+ OBP he may have a chance because the glove is that good. I am rooting for him.

When I read the recap, that homerun made me not care about the game. That’s a great sign from a kid that deserves it.

Is this an anomaly or the beginning of a power surge??

It’s an anomaly. The wind was blowing out, although to LF and this was hit to near straightaway CF. But it was against an MLB pitcher at an MLB distance and is a data point that he’s strong enough that the OFers won’t be able to play 15 feet behind the infield should he make it to the majors.

Maybe he took hitting lessons from Lagares to get the ball in the air.

It was also a pitch that was left hanging.
