The Rockies rallied from an early two-run deficit to claim a 3-2 victory Sunday over the Mets and a sweep of the three-game series. The Mets have now lost six games in a row.
Noah Syndergaard wasn’t sharp and keeping with his preference to look for a reason to pull starters rather than a reason to keep them in the game, manager Mickey Callaway removed Syndergaard after six innings and 95 pitches.
Callaway played the matchup game in the 7th inning and Jerry Blevins and AJ Ramos kept the game tied 2-2. But then Callaway turned to Hansel Robles in a tie game in the 8th inning. I know you’ll be shocked – shocked! – to hear that Robles gave up a homer. In his last 47.2 IP in the majors, Robles has surrendered 13 HR.
Here’s a free tip for our matchup crazy manager – Robles is better against LHB than RHB. Righty Ian Desmond, who earlier homered off Syndergaard, hit an opposite field homer off Robles for the game winner. After the homer, Robles retired three lefties.
The Mets staged a two-out rally in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners on base, but Tomas Nido struck out looking to end the game.
I have no problem pulling Noah after 6 . He didn’t have it today and was more than fortunate giving up only 2 runs. What did he end up with? 5 Ks and 4 BB? I do have a problem with our hitting though. 3 singles to start the game, 1 more in the 1st and not another until 2 out in the ninth. Conforto has been ridiculously bad, followed closely by Bruce. At this rate Bruce will end up with 10-12 homers this year.
Syndergaard self reflection:
“I think I just need to learn how to elevate in the zone with my fastball. I feel like hitters know that I throw strikes and that I work down in the zone with my fastball. I think the ability to elevate my fastball would just add another element to my repertoire and get more swing and misses instead of foul balls and an elevated pitch count.”
like no duh. I mean the entire world sees it…someone not telling you?
Why why why is Hansel Robles still on our roster and why on earth is he still brought into close games???
We were told in spring training that this is a meritocracy and there are no scholarships. Management and coaching decisions are not reflecting that. Time for a shakeup. I’d DFA Robles, Gonzalez and Reyes in one shot, replace them with Rhame, Smith and Cecchini and make a move for a catcher Now. How about Harvey to Tampa for Ramos?

Matt, no one is going to give up a single person to get Harvey, when they can have him for free next Sunday, and the Mets will still be paying his salary.
Its not like any of the bottom teams *need* him, and no good teams would waste a minor leaguer and roster spot to hold a 6+ ERA prima donna.
Hitters need to get their head out of their butts and stop,swinging for the fences with their upper cut swing and hit some line drives. Contorto needs to go down and get his swing back like last year.. Anderson receives a big fat F for thinking that two no hit catchers could fill the void along with a rookie shortstop who is a buck ninety hitter. Go get a cather even if it means giving up Nimmo.
The good news is a 3 game set with the Reds ought to give us our ordinary Vitamin W boost. If not, see y’all in 2019.

Conforto is starting to smell like Bill Buckner. No, not the error. Buckner was a solid player, but from 1971-1980, his average had a 40 point deviation every year. Good year, mediocre year. It’s looking like we dont know which Conforto will show up.
Rosario, he has zero plate discipline. Never had it in the minors either.
First base, we already know what that is.
Catcher, yes, Lobaton is really bad, but the comparison of a new catcher had to be to Plawecki, because he will be back soon. Perez from Cleveland is bad too. Even with Mejia at AAA, there is no way Cleveland will trade Gomes. So, either we can go get a Rene Rivera to backup Plawecki, or go after a Tucker Barnhart from a terrible Reds team. Barnhart should be the target. Realmuto is too expensive and overrated.
At first, we have said it a million times, Bruce needs to dust off his glove. Smith could be an option, or what the hay, let’s bring up Alonso.
Thank goodness for Cabrera.
And no, don’t trade Nimmo. He could hit .250 every year and with g is discipline, have a .340 OBP every year.
This season is rapidly trekking towards a very mediocre year. So, let’s stop wasting our time with Gonzalez and Reyes.
As I always say, I am an impatient fan, so let’s shake it up.
Just how can Ramos, a premier reliever get 1 batter in the 7th, lwith Blevins doing well, leaving Robles for a whole high-leverage inning, when he hasnt pitch in the bigs in weeks, and is terrible in high leverage situations.
If this were Collins…the BBQ would be on high.

As we said in the chat, the basehit swings are replaced by HR swings. Relievers are getting burned for one batter, is just ridiculous. Robles had no business in today’s game before extras. Using Flores to pinch run left the Mets with no choice but to bat Nido, who isn’t supposed to be in the majors, so it’s not the kid’s fault. Even pinch running Matz for Flores would have left you that bat for what obviously was the bottom of the lineup.
Seems like the game is speeding up on Callaway.

I think it doesn’t even occur to Callaway to use a pitcher to pinch run. That’s not his game. He’s too used to the AL where all pitchers do is pitch. And with deGrom getting hurt on a swing, I don’t see him even considering using pitchers for non-pitching situations.
Tom Seaver had 231 complete games in his career. They need to let these guys pitch.
If the starters went further into the game, then they wouldn’t need a piece of junk like Robles.
Five or six innings is ridiculous.
Whether the starter throws 90 pitches or 120 pitches, they will be back on the mound in five days.
The players of today are well trained and are bigger and stronger than they were decades ago. Yet, they are so much more fragile.
Mike W – to your first point, there are plenty of other possibilities at catcher – in trade there’s Wilson Ramos, Jonathan Lucroy, Salvador Perez and available FAs include Geovany Soto, Carlos Ruiz and others.
To your second point, pitchers used to work out by running, stretching, and long tossing. Today, many lift heavy weights. With today’s advances in athletic training, they should be preaching isometric exercises to improve flexibility, not build big muscles. Baseball players in general, not just pitchers, are getting hurt far too often.

This was the third straight game that Noah started and the team did not secure a victory. This is a bad sign. There isn’t enough offense to support Noah’s pitching.
Robles pitching in that spot was a poor decision. Blevins and Ramos should have pitched an inning.
