In the year 2018 vs LHB:

Blevins – .286/.348/.381 in 23 PA
Robles — .214/.313/.429 in 16 PA

In the year 2018 vs RHB:

Blevins – .125/.364/.125 in 11 PA
Robles — .280/.280/.720 in 25 PA

Righties have two doubles and three homers versus Robles this year.

The goal should be to never use more than one of the multi-inning relievers (Gsellman, Lugo, Sewald) in the same game so you don’t end up having to bring Robles into a game with a LI over 1.0 – like he’s done in six of his nine appearances. Yesterday’s 1.83 gmLI was no spot for a guy who gives out extra-base hits to righty batters on a regular basis.

Who believes deGrom will actually pitch Sunday? It sounds like extreme caution with him like in ST, but I fear if he even feels the teeniest twinge of pain in his 50-pitch up and down on Tues, they will shut him down. Jake was ready to go today, but the team officials seemingly were afraid of optics just in case something bad happened. It reeks of paranoia from Sat night into Sun morning as opposed to being reasonable if they just DL’d him to begin with.

I’m not going to criticize them taking a day to make the decision with a SP. The ability to backdate the DL stint made it the right move to wait for more information.

And I’d rather that they shut him down for a couple of starts than lose him for 3+ months. That’s what we’ve seen way too much of this century – minimizing injuries and asking guys to tough it out and play through it.

Do you believe he’ll pitch Sunday though and they’re just being careful with him?

        • Brian Joura

There are a lot of times when not being on the inside is actually an advantage. This is not one of those times. Anyone not in direct contact with deGrom and the decision makers is just guessing.

My guess is that he will pitch. But I wouldn’t wager any money on it.

I was surprised that they waited to put him on the DL. I think it is a good idea.Missing one or two starts is being prudent.

    – something is off with Blevins this year. Hope Eiland can figure it out.
    – Robles has to go.
    – agree, no reason Ramos can’t pitch a full inning.
    – when possible, Gsellman, Lugo and Sewald should go 2+. The need for pinch hitters will sometimes interfere with this plan of course.
    – would be nice if we had Swarzak

I was perplexed as to why Mickey didn’t double-switch Sewald into the game Saturday night; they could’ve gotten more than one inning out of him, rather than use Gsellman — who gave up an insurance run — for 2.

He would have had to have taken out Frazier in favor of Wilmer Flores, but that’s who ended up PHing for the pitcher anyway. I guess he was worried about the D.

Perhaps this is the result of having a manager, bench coach and pitching coach who all hail from the American League.

I was thinking of early midseason trades for a specific need. Three players come to mind and what the cost was. 1) Mike Piazza. 2) Don Clendenon 3) Mike Bordick.
    1) I was against the trade because the team already had an injured but high offense catcher. Boy was I wrong.
    2) He was the 1969 WS MVP. Filled in at the right handed platoon at 1st base. The team was so desperate they used an out of position Cleon Jones at first who wrote in his autobiography how easy it looks but how hard it was. Hello Jay Bruce.
    3) Rey Ordenez and his backup are injured and out for the year. A young player name Melvin Mora was thrown out there, looking lost and scared at shortstop. Although it was not a May but actually a deadline trade, this one seems likes today’s catcher problem. Need filled but Mora js the trade bait who goes on to play nicely for Baltimore for ten years

So my fiancé and I were coming home from the Mets game Saturday night. She’s from Ohio and not really a baseball fan.

    Abby: “Isn’t that Yankee Stadium?”

    Me: “Yeah.”

Abby: “Wow! So close to home! Wouldn’t it be easier if you were a Yankees fan?”

    Me: “On so many levels…”

The Yankees have done things right and the Mets have not. Look at the international players they have signed including Gary Sanchez. Mets – crickets chirping. They have made shrewd trades when they picked up Gleyber Torres and Clint Frazier. Heck, some of their best prospects are just waiting in the minors, including Justus Sheffield.

To add insult to injury, they just bring up Andujar and Torres to add to a stacked lineup and Domigo German throws 6 no hit innings in his first start.

It really hurts to look across town.

We can justify Sandy Alderson’s performance with all kinds of stats and budgetary concerns. But, look at the minor league system. Our prospects are fringe prospects. We have no top tier MLB prospects. His history of drafting is not good.

I said it yesterday. Maybe it is time to pull the trigger and reload.

deGrom and Syndergaard would bring a haul.

Look at a Syndergaard trade to the Yankees. A haul such as Chance Adams, Justus Sheffield, Clint Frazier and Domingo German.

Wrong again! Me! I couldn’t believe that the Mets “wasted” $8.5 million on Asdrubal Cabrera by picking up his option. Hell, even Neil Walker would have been better!

Cabrera 123 AB .333/.382/.577 165 OPS+ 1.7 oWar -0.5 dWar (limited range, but makes most of the plays, including turning the DP well)

    Walker 103 AB .189/.282/.222 40 OPS+ -0.5 oWar -0.3 dWar

    Harvey’s next team?

So far I’ve seen three teams mentioned as real possibilities.
Rangers – Warthen is assistant pitching coach and Bartolo Colon is there), Mariners – Pitcher’s park, need help in the back end of rotation
    Giants – same as above.

Reportedly, the Yankees and Orioles are both not interested.

If he refuses to go to the minors, that rules out any competitive team and no basement team is going to give up prospects or take on part of his salary. My guess is, Harvey signs after the seven days are up with one of the above teams. Other possibilities include the Padres and Rays. Marlins would make for juicy backpage headlines.

    • Charlie Hangley

      I’ve seen a Harvey-for-Blake-Swihart deal with Boston floating around…

Mets need to sweep the Reds.

One more thing. Need more hitting, why not do something kinky three times a month. Astrubal Cabrera to shortstop, Wilmer Flores at 2b, Jay Bruce at 1st base and Brandon Nimmo in RF.

The team takes a lead, Amed Rosario comes and everyone reverts to their natural positions in the field. Defense suffers but the offense bulls forward.

    • Brian Joura

If we’ve learned anything the past several years, it’s that wherever you try to hide Flores defensively, the ball finds him and he hurts you. Moving Cabrera to SS to play Flores makes the defense significantly worse at two positions. And Flores is hitting .213 (.130 in his last 13 games with a .503 OPS) so it’s not like he’s going great guns.

  • Eric B (Santa Monica)

6-14 since D’arnaud and Plawecki went down on the same day. Coincidence?

    • Brian Joura

No, I don’t think it’s all a coincidence. Not that I think they’d be 14-6 in that span with both healthy, but they would be better.

  • Eraff

The Mets are in no position to burn trade assets early, but it’s not a Major League Lineup with the two catchers, right now. I am stunned that they’ve stuck with this—maybe some feeling that the Pitchers have had enough changes?????

Conforto— I’d love to see him play pepper SS-3b side for a few ab’s. He needs to get himself sighted through the ball.

    Matz…a hopeful looking start?

  • TexasGusCC

Mesoraco’s comps are legit backups. His similarities are:
    1. Cameron Rupp
    2. Travis d’Arnaud

Well, we have a legit backup, similar to what we had.
