Skinny hope is Hanging on Pitchers who need to show they are beyond “They Don’t/Wont/Can’t”— Matz and Wheeler. They need to pitch competitively with a dose of Solid Wow from dG and Noah.

This team is constructed to trade in to a Race or a Rebuild. The Harvey move indicates that they might be unstuck from the dreamy ideal of Five Aces.

The rebuild, sadly, would begin with deGrom– he has the highest value for a very large and rich Propspect haul.

On a Bright note— Rosario is scuffling and showing flashes. He’s not being buried by failure and he’s looking like a guy who will become a really fine player for many years.

If the Mets had enough talent, they could just let Rosario develop. The Mets won in 86 when Rafael Santana had a sub .300 OBP.

What’s wrong with Conforto. Is it in his head or is he having residual effects from his injury last year.

Let’s see how the year plays out. If the Mets continue to slide, I am a big proponent of letting the youngsters play to see what they got.

Vargas is looking like a really bad signing.

Let’s be creative and practical. Agon – gone, but who’s on first? I don’t know. Maybe, Frazier to first, Cabrera to third and Guillorme or Cecchini to second. Maybe we roll the dice and bring up Alonso to play first.

I love Wilmer Flores heart and desire. But he is really limited. He can’t run. He’d hsve trouble beating Bartolo in a rave around the bases. The team needs to manufacture more runs. That means getting on base and running, so Flores should be replaced.

We have to find a spot for Nimmo. Even with a .250 batting average, he is a .380 OBP player. That is valuable.

My biggest fear is that the Mets finish the year below or close to .500 and that Alderson will again rely on hope and bargain bin players for next year.

I am in no means saying go out and sign Harper or Machado, but the team has to get younger and faster. Oh, plus needing to get maybe two new starters who can give you innings and consistency.

If they can’t do this or don’t want to do this, then maybe a complete rebuild woupd be the best course of action.

Oh yeah, in 46 innings this year, Bartolo Colon has a 3.32 ERA.

I really believe that the catalyst for a turnaround will be when Conforto starts hitting. He’s a linchpin for this lineup.

Metsense and I saw the Columbia Fireflies Friday night. Here were my thoughts on some of their guys.

Blake Tiberi – Does not look athletic at all and was unimpressive at the bat and in the field.

Rigoberto Terrazas – Looked like a hitter

Jeremy Vasquez – Holds his hands super close to his body when he sets up in the batter’s box. Need a quick swing to make this work but it looks like he has that.

Hansel Moreno – The most athletic looking player – long and lean and he delivered a triple in their 3-run inning. But also looked real bad on curves.

Joe Cavallaro – Came in with great numbers but was not impressive at all. He’s got a nice little breaking ball but I’d be surprised if he passed Double-A.

Steve Villines – Was more impressed with him than I thought I’d be. He had the same 87 mph fastball as Cavallaro but it popped more in the catcher’s glove. And the sidearmer had no problem with lefties.

Trey Cobb – Didn’t know anything about him but he looked great. Had a 94 mph fastball and a nice breaking ball. Like Blackham for the Fireflies last year, he’s too old for this level. But I expect he’ll get a mid-year promotion.
