The Mets continue to be 0-for-June.

Zack Wheeler and Dylan Bundy battled for seven innings in a scoreless game, though it wasn’t easy to tell if both men were on their game or both offenses were just that vapid. Jeurys Familia came on in the eighth and gave up an infield hit to Pedro Alvarez, a play that Amed Rosario at short could/should have made. Craig Gentry pinch-ran. After Trey Mancini lined out to right, Adam Jones singled up the middle, Gentry crossing to third. Manny Machado — that Man again — hit a fly to deep center and Gentry trotted home.

The Mets’ feeble offense, held in check by Bundy all day, now faced reliever Richard Bleier to try and get that run back. It looked promising at first. Brandon Nimmo whistled a base hit up the middle. Asdrubal Cabrera, the Mets’ most consistent hitter all season, though now mired in a miserable slump, tried to bunt for a base hit. Bleier snared the looping ball and fired to first to double Nimmo off.

That was all the excitement for the afternoon, save for a futile effort in the ninth, when Todd Frazier led off with a base hit and Jay Bruce hit fly to deep left that the soft June breeze knocked down before it could reach the fence. Even that couldn’t stir the masses, causing one wag on Twitter — ok, it was me — to opine, “Even if the Mets win this somehow , it will be the most desultory walk-off in history.” We were spared having to grapple with that, ultimately.

Off-day tomorrow, before the Yankees come to Queens. God help us all.

    2-of-3 to Cincinnati
    2-of-3 to Miami
    2-of-2 to Baltimore

This was a team that was supposed to challenge for the Division? Tell me again who the worst team in baseball is?

    What a joke.

Fourth inning: Cabrera leads off with a double, Batters 3-5 Conforto, Frasier and Bruce produce a soft liner to center and 2 pop ups on a grand total of 8 pitches.
    You’re right, a complete joke.
Maybe it’s time to call for hitting coach Roessler’s head. That guy is so invisible I had to look it up.

Sorry I thought it was Brandon Nimmo who attempted the bunt. Worse yet it was Cabrera., the best hitter on the Mets team. Once again Mickey was playing small ball. or better yet Little tiny ball.
I think he would do better as a Little League Manager.
He has no answers and his interviews are always the same. If he was in the Armed Forces at one time he wold know that when you need an excuse the answer is always,”No excuse Sir!” Signed… Harry, former Tactical Instructor in the USAF. Same as a Drill Instructor in the Army and Marines.

Harry, I was listening to the radio the other day when Cabrera was batting and they spoke about all the different situations Cabrera has laid down a bunt this year and how its usually on his own. Honestly, I don’t disagree with fundamental ball but that’s a different discussion.

    In case you are wondering…
The Mets have played in 16 series since the 11-1 start. We have won 3 of those series, with 1 sweep (Arizona) and lost 10, splitting 3. No math makes that look good.

Giants football is close…as always, the Mets are dead… I’m done until the Wilpons sell

Did you see the look at the players’ faces? They were in shock.
Dis you look in our faces? We were in shock.

But don’t forget the summer of 2015. The offense and the pitchers were at this stage also. Knowing if the starter gave up 3 runs in a game, it was over.

Just saying, is Peter Alfonso a real player? Is he ready? I’m sure he couldn’t hurt the team if he was here.

  • Pete from NJ

Sorry Brian, I didn’t see your Alfonso post. I’m batting at of order.

I never thought I’d utter these words, but the Mets are becoming unwatchable and very difficult to root for. My son just asked me if we can find another team to root for.

  • Mike Walczak

Hey, they got PJ Conlon back from the Dodgers. They dump him, now they get him back.

This team is a mess. It’s getting close to the time to start selling.
