Thanks to the friendly Colorado hitting climate and a terrific start by Jacob deGrom, the Mets were able to defeat the Colorado Rockies 12-2.
It was in the first at bat in the series that the tone would be set for this game. On a 0-2 count, Brandon Nimmo laced a ball into the outfield, and raced his way around the bases for an inside the park home run. The Mets would not look back from this early lead.
Of course fending off the advances of the Rockies was the hero of the Mets, deGrom. While he didn’t rack up many strikeouts (he only recorded six on the night) deGrom was able to make his time on the mound count in other ways. Through eight innings, deGrom allowed one earned run and walked one, while lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.51. In an even more shocking development, the Mets were able to pull off a win for deGrom as well.
This of course required the help of deGrom, as the defense of this team, much like home plate umpire Tony Randazzo, took a few body blows this evening. It was in the seventh when an error by Jose Bautista that allowed Gerardo Parra to score. Luckily, the Mets were in an offense friendly ballpark.
The Mets slugged their way through this game, clobbering home run after home run. Nimmo, Wilmer Flores, and Devin Mesoraco all smacked a home run on the evening. For Nimmo, he not only slugged an inside the park home run, but drove a shot deep into the outfield in the top of the seventh to add on to the Mets lead. Nimmo would go onto have four hits and four runs batted in. My Gut Reaction from this offensive outburst is that playing in Colorado is exactly what the team needed to get them going. Every player besides Bautista and deGrom registered a hit in the starting lineup.
The bottom line is that the Mets knew that they could take advantage of a bullpen that is worse than their own, and they made the most of the opportunity. They scored seven runs off of a terrible bullpen, including a six run ninth inning.
After winning on Monday, the Mets improved to 31-38, and deGrom improved to 5-2. They will be back at it again tomorrow night in Colorado, as Jason Vargas will take on German Marquez at 8:40 pm.
Now that was a wake up and an ass whooping. Nimmo is unbelievable. And I admit, I was hoping they would trade him for Josh Harrison. I am glad they didn’t do it.

JdG had 7 Ks on the night, not 6. Simple fact check. I love this site but too often the authors just don’t seem to do even basic fact checks.
Nimmo has become a superstar and had his best game of his career and has ten homers in the last 25 games, insane. Conforto is back and will have a monster second half and I think Rosario will get better and better though he still has a huge learning curve and is very raw. Jake was great and got some good defense early in the game with Flores making an excellent play and thanks to umpire incompetence got s inning ending double play.
Jake got hit hard in the second and third but after that he settled in and got tons of grounders and in the seventh inning bailed out Flores and Bautista. Jake probably gets a complete game if not for those misplays but the offense tacked on a bunch of runs late.
I wondered if the Rockies bullpen would make the Mets look real good and it really did thankfully. Nimmo and Conforto hitting lately coincides with them letting face lefties, will wonders never cease? You tell me when kids are given a chance to succeed they will? The hell you say!
Tough night for the NY media, who usually like to compare and contrast Mets and Yankees young players and crap on Mets young guy, sorry guys and gals!
I still think this team is done, but really nice to see them play very good baseball instead of the disgusting brand of baseball they played the previous seven weeks.
They’ve certainly dug a big hole for themselves. But if the offense follows the pitching and straightens itself out, I still believe there could be meaningful games in 2018.

Besides for the Browns nobody is as hapless as the Knicks.

Steevy, LOL, on another web site someone responded to that line that the Bruce signing was subtraction by addition. Not even I’m that mean!
I don’t think Smith is any worse than Bruce in the field from what I’ve seen so far, and is a better hitter especially since he should be a line-to-line hitter. Flores is their best right handed hitter and should be at cleanup. But, the Mets popularity contest rules the show.
