In late April and early May we lost games because of some bad starting pitching. For a few weeks in May we lost games because of a leaky bullpen. Then in late May into June our bats went silent. In a rare game tonight where we scored enough runs to win and pitched well enough to stay in it, we made three errors. Bad teams can always find a way to lose.

Seth Lugo pitched five innings and allowed three runs, but only one was earned, thanks to two errors by the “sure-handed” Luis Guillorme and another by Asdrubal Cabrera. Tylor Bashlor made his big league debut and looked good in his first inning of work, before surrendering a two-run home run to Josh Bell to put the score out of reach.

The Mets rallied in the 7th behind a Wilmer Flores three-run home run and a Kevin Plawecki RBI double to bring the Mets within a run, but Robert Gsellman, who seems to have hit a wall of late, let the game get out of reach in the ninth with an insurance run that may as well have been five.

The good news today is that Brandon Nimmo‘s finger injury turned out to be less serious than feared and he should avoid the disabled list that seems to have swallowed up half our roster for the second year in a row. The series continues tomorrow with Steven Matz opposing the young right hander Chad Kuhl.

This teams performance has been pathetic. It is time to shake it up.

At this rate, Mickey Calloways post game speeches will get more laughs than the entire series of two and a half men.

Luis Guillorme has two professional starts at third base coming into this year, and the Mets started him at third base today instead of his best position to play Reyes at shortstop a position he can no longer play not that his defense at third is good either.

Lugo as screwed by his defense but he didn’t look good either as he didn’t have good command and control but the three errors did cause him to throw 31 extra pitches. Lugo could have gone deeper if not for the errors but who knows how effective he would have been. Bashlor looked okay in his first inning but slide a guy and gave up a homer to a guy who has hit for no power this year.

The offense was stalled in the first by a Dom hitting into a double play and were mostly quiet until the seventh when they exploded but a brutal 3-0 call on Bautista really killed the Mets and possibly stopped them from taking the lead.

I dunno why Mickey didn’t Familia pitch the ninth as there was no save situation but whatever they were not gonna get to Vasquez after Plawecki and Guillorme failed in the eighth. I can’t believe the Nats just gave away Vasquez with that arm for a two month rental.

All in all. another close game another terrible loss and really don’t get how things will get better anytime soon and by soon I mean the next few years.

It really is crazy how the Mets are in most games and just can’t get that one big hit to put them over the top. Would have hit Kaczmarski for Guillorme in the 8th inning.

The Mets are not in these games as much as the scores seem to suggest. We are outplayed inning after inning. If it were really legit close…we wouldnt lose such a disproportionate amount. This team is plain bad.

The Mets made a big mistake yesterday in starting Blevins. Should have started Guillorme in the mound. Would have had the same results.

With the lineup we trotted out last night and the pitcher we used Sunday, it kind of feels like we’re tanking, doesn’t it? But why would we do that? Is there a Ken Griffey Jr. type expected to top next year’s draft? Seriously, I don’t believe anyone tanks in baseball, but it’s just hard to accept that this team (and front office) are giving it their all these days. We are now thisclose to dropping into last place behind a team that unloaded almost all of its good players before the season.

Dominic Smith batting clean-up and the Jose brothers manning short and right? That’s some lineup right there. This team is so incredibly unbearable. Thank God I’m in Iowa and I have no opportunity to spend hard earned cash to go watch this abomination of a ballclub live.
Once again, a home plate umpire who missed numerous obvious calls — both balls and strikes for both teams — throughout the entire game and was especially bad over the final three frames. I just don’t get it — MLB implements instant replay “to get the calls right” but yet apparently stands idly by as the most common call in the game is consistently missed game after game after game.

I agree with Chris F, the Notion that the Mets are “in” these games is illusion. They are playing .200 ball over their last 30 and have two 7 game losing streaks in June. They almost never have a lead and if they do it vanishes quickly. This is historically bad, not simply the ebbs and flows of a season.

Additionally, the continuation under the Alderson regime of guys playing positions at the MLB level is a glaring indictment of incompetence. A one-off here and there, okay it happens. This is a regular occurrence with the Mets and the results speak for themselves. Very poor.

Remember all the talk in the off-season about our new approach to conditioning and all the new trainers we brought in? How come everyone on this team winds up on the DL? Signing older free agents doensn’t help but our young guys all seem to have a knack for getting banged up too. There’s not a single iron man on this team.
