I assume we are looking at this because of a possible deGrom/Syndergaard deal?

Who would the other players be in a deal that centered on Hiura?

A Brewers blogger proposed this for JDG:

Hiura (their #1 prospect according to MLBPipeline)
      Corbin Burnes (#2)
      Corey Ray (#6)
      Zack Brown (#23)

i had a brewers package the other day:

deGrom and (insert lesser player/prospect here) ___Dom Smith____

        in exchange for:
        Freddy Peralta (SP)
Josh Hader (RP) or Corbin Burnes (SP)
        Keston Hiura (2B)
        Lucas Erceg (3B)
        Brett Phillips (CF)

I don’t pretend to know anything about the Brewers’ farm system. I will say that I’d be completely shocked if they traded Hader.

Give them Lugo for Hiura and that’s it. Last night I heard John Harper wrote what I’ve tried to remind people: prospects don’t always work out. In fact, the White Sox are less than thrilled with the prospects they got back for Chris Sale.

Even worse, Huira for all his offensive accolades, is a college hitter that has torn through the minors and has shown an arm that still hasn’t recovered from surgery. Furthermore, while the Mets don’t need pitching, Corey Ray is not showing well as a top prospect draft choice. He’s got power and speed and fits the Mike Cameron profile, with bad defense and more strikeouts.

While I don’t know more than I’ve read, their minor league numbers don’t scream top pitcher return. Give them Lugo for Huira or Wheeler for both.

FWIW, It was only 3 games, but i watched Hiura in A+ this year and didn’t even realize he was a top prospect. Non memorable at all. Just checked his stats for the series and he was 4-15 with 6 strikeouts.

In the 3 years of watching A+ ball, only 2 guys have ever impressed me and that was Swanson 2 years ago and Soto this year. I thought Victor Robles was way overrated and Moncada was just average.

Hiura got off to a miserable start and you saw him in the third series of the year.

From 4/27 to today, he has a .365/.424/.599 line and he’s been promoted to Double-A, where he’s hit better than when he was in Hi-A. My guess is if you saw him in June, he would have made an impression.

The big question is if he can hack it at 2B. He started the year recovering from an injury and spent his first 28 games as a DH. Since the second week of May, he’s mostly played 2B but his defense was a question mark coming into the season. There’s talk he may need to move the the OF.
