Yeah, yeah, we lost again. This time to the last place team. The one who traded away all their best players in the off-season. The one we’ll be trading standing places with by Sunday if we don’t right this sinking ship.

Ace and constant topic of Yankee fan speculation (no you can’t have him, especially not for two prospects not named Gleyber) Jacob deGrom was scratched from his scheduled start last night due an undisclosed family matter. In his place, Corey Oswalt and a parade of fresh faced relievers took the hill and were mostly not very good. Oswalt cruised through the first two innings before getting clobbered in the third for six runs courtesy of big smashes by Lewis Brinson and JT Riddle. White Sox cast off Chris Beck recorded one out in the third and then Tyler Bashlor took over and matched Oswalt’s 2 2/3 innings. Similarly, he cruised through two before losing it in his third inning of work, but Jerry Blevins came in to record the last out with runners on and limit Bashlor’s line to just one run allowed. Blevins, in his best outing of the season (hey, a bright spot!) recorded four outs without allowing a baserunner. Drew Smith closed out the game, allowing one run in the ninth.

“When they get the opportunity, we need to get to see them, get our eyes on them, kind of figure out who they are,” manager Mickey Callaway told MLB.com. Too bad these are marginal prospects and not future stars like the Yankees and Braves keep unearthing.

On the offensive side, the Mets again excelled at stranding base runners, turning 17 baserunners into just two runs scored. They got a look at future stud Sandy Alcantara, who was a bit wild, but certainly has electrifying stuff with a moving fastball and a Jake Arrieta like slider. Devin Mesoraco and Jose Bautista each hit doubles, but the biggest positive from the lineup was Amed Rosario, who drew three walks in one game. That’s more than he usually draws in a month. Perhaps he’s learning to be more patient at the plate.

Jacob deGrom will take the hill tonight for the Mets and hopefully get some run support against

I’ve been a Mets fan since 1972, and it is hard for me to think objectively of a more depressing time than right now. I avoided the game last night but it is still a huge bummer reading the recap. All that is left if for Brian Cashman to fleece our new GM Jeff Wilpon of our top pitcher.

I have been a fan since 69. I can deal with terrible records and poor play. What bothers me is keeping and playing players who have no value to the future such as Reyes, Vargas and Bautista.

If your team is going to suck, you need to play young players and let them develop.

We won’t get Torres or Andujar, but I would start with Justus Sheffield, Chance Adams, Clint Frazier and Estevan Florial.

The trade can never be worse than the worst day of my life when Seaver was traded to the Reds.

The most important stat left unstated: 8,211.

The attendance at the game. When all the Mets fans in Flah-ri-duh jump ship, you know the Titanic is going down.

I know Cashman has already said that Torres (however you spell his name) is off limits, but most of the Yankees top prospects are pitchers, and the Mets don’t need pitchers. Other than Andujar and Frazier, there’s nothing that floors me. McKinnon is nice, even hurt, and then? They have a lot of catchers, so a catcher? Rutherford? Both?

Then, there’s the prospect factor. Will they work out? Conversely, is it prudent to tell them to meet our price of Torres, Andujar and Frazier or no deal? They are getting three post seasons of control with a top five MLB pitcher…

I’m not afraid of Hamels or Happ. If he brings them up, I’ll say ok, “I’ll be watching when they pitch in Fenway”…

Todd Frazier took a stand and refused to be stranded, opting to be picked off at second base instead.
